Gamlangchai was invited by Professor Dr Mayfong Mayxay, President of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) to give lectures in the multidisciplinary course where top 36 honor medical students across faculties at UHS enrolled in🎓.

🩵Students were equipped with techniques to prevent them from compassion fatigue as healthcare provider candidates when they might encounter emotional and physical exhaustion from caring for others. Common mental health concepts were also introduced such as stress, burnout and help-seeking behaviour.

Gamlangchai is looking forward to contributing to capacity-building initiatives for healthcare workers, helping them develop the knowledge and skills to provide basic mental health first aid ⛑️ 🩹 , while also emphasizing the importance of caring for their own mental health and wellbeing.

🩹🩵 We’ve all had moments when we wanted to help someone but weren’t sure how.
This World Mental Health Day, our Gamlangchai Volunteers and Mental Health Champions came together to learn how “empathy” and “small acts of care” can truly make a difference.

💙 On 4 October 2025, Gamlangchai conducted a capacity building session for selected Mental Health Champions - “Mental Health First Aid Training”, led by our Psychosocial Support Training & Capacity Building Lead - Nicky, Ketsada Soysouvanh. 20 MH champions will proceed to be peer leaders and provide basic psychosocial support in the upcoming Peer Support Programs.

The close-knit group of peer leaders attended the training with warmth and positive energy. The collaborative session fostered learning, sharing, and growth. Peer leaders were encouraged to explore some key elements of psychosocial support and the science behind emotions. Participants were equipped with techniques to be a “Peer Support Leader” , such as 3L’s principles:

👀 Look — for the signs when someone needs help;
👂 Listen — and create a safe space with empathy;
🤝 Link — and communicate with care —connecting others to professional support.

✨ We believe that these four hours of heartfelt conversation in a cozy café will spark positive waves of change for mental health in Laos 🫶💐 A big thank-you to everyone who joined, shared, and learned together with Gamlangchai 💙

🗓️On 19 September 2025, Gamlangchai was honored to welcome H.E. Hon. Kate Thwaites, Special Envoy for Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience and Member for Jagajaga, Victoria, along with delegates from the Australian Regional Leadership Initiative and Save the Children Australia.

📢 We addressed the lack of psychosocial support services in Laos and how community-based mental health initiatives could fill some gaps and spark more conversation about mental health and well-being. From there, Gamlangchai was born. Three Lao-Australian Alumni, Phatsaline Vongsaly, Anna Souvannalath and Ketsada Soysouvanh, other supporters and advisors aimed for a mission to create a community where people feel safe to discuss mental health, and to make community-based mental health services more accessible.

🩵With support from Oaktree, an Australian youth-led organisation in international development, Wellness Festival, “Huan; A Longing Heart”, an awareness short film and Peer Support Programs were successfully implemented.

🌟Two of our youth beneficiaries shared their personal stories, highlighting how community-based mental health services can make a meaningful difference for individuals with lived experiences. They are soon participating in Gamlangchai’s social impact programs as peer leaders and mental health advocates.

🎊Gamlangchai is glad that our efforts in creating positive change for the mental health framework in Laos have been acknowledged by ARLI. We were honored to have the chance to share our community work and experiences with ARLI delegates, policymakers, and representatives from international organizations.

🎗️These exchanges not only strengthened our shared commitment to community wellbeing but also opened pathways for future collaboration and strategic dialogue to make mental health services more inclusive and accessible across communities.

Gamlangchai was awarded Top 4 most active CSO/social enterprise against 116 organizations across 11 ASEAN countries based on recorded number of visitors

Our programs and services were showcased in the regional conference where grassroots convene to create changes from bottom up. Our social impact programs such as “Wellness Festival” and “Peer Support Programs” (which are coming soon!) attracted several people across age groups and ignited endless conversations about mental health in the booth.

“I wish we had peer support programs in my University” an Indonesian student expressing his eagerness to participate in an informal community service where personal “lived experience” can be shared in a safe space was one of many participants coming across Gamlangchai’s booth.

Mental Health was an integral element of this year’s public health session. Panellists ranging from policy makers to epidemiologists addressed a scarcity in mental health professionals and an urgent need to capacitate volunteers to provide informal service in their communities.

Recognizing youths as agents of transformation, our community-driven programs targeting on prevention and promotion of mental health and wellbeing are peer-led and volunteer-run. We continue to provide a safe space for youths to become the future “Mental health Champions”

The Journey of “The Next Gen Mental Health Champions (MHC)” Starts Today!

On 28 September 2025, MHC gathered to create a new wave on mental health and well-being in Laos.

🩵Nicky, our Psychosocial Support Training and Capacity Building Lead opened with a reminder that MHC Club is a safe space to try, stumble, and grow. From there, community-based mental health activities flourish.

🩵Ford, Youth Engagement and Operations Lead mapped out 3 different pathways:Wellness Festival ( ), Peer Support Programs ( ) and Individual Projects ( ), where MHC could participate, learn and grow from.

🩵Jack, our Public Relations Officer, leveraged his social media platform to promote the signs and symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder which earned him, an achievement.

Our MHC brainstormed to make a fun and exciting experience which 🩵Sakhone, 🩵Namfon, 🩵Xaiy, 🩵 Nuna and 🩵Johnny, our inspiring focal points from Working Groups provided insights into how to make a festival more organized, inclusive, secure, immersive and meaningful.

Most of all, a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who joined – MHC and Mental Health awareness is expanding because of you! ❤️
