Do you fear going to a dentist, here are a few tips to help you overcome your fears:
1. Know that your fear is something normal, we know that a visit to the dentist ain't fun at all, but here is something, what you are passing through is VERY VERY Normal
2. Find a good dentist, and make sure you tell him/her about your fears
3. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING AT ONCE! make sure you schedule appointments on weekly basis (even if this means that you have to visit your dentist for 3 consecutive months or more
4.For extreme fears you can schedule an appointment with a counselor/Psychologist
5. You can bring fun things with you to the dental clinic to help relief your anxiety and fears, for example a stress ball, your IPOD with your favorite music (that will help you relax). You can also get a fun book to read while waiting for your turn
6.Bring someone with you (a relative, a friend) for moral support
7. Focus on calming your self, thinking positively, and you can try breathing exercise or meditation before your appointment
8. Focus on positive thinking (STOP thinking about the pain, instead try to focus your mind on the outcome (a healthy beautiful smile)
9. AND YES.... don't forget to reward yourself, after your dental appointment go and do your favorite hobby, activity, maybe you can go shopping, treat yourself with a delicious meal :), go out with friends. Make sure you remind yourself that this is a reward for overcoming your fear
10.If all else fails, know that sedation is an option. Though this should only be used as a last resort, the dentist can provide a number of sedation options. They range from giving you a pill that you take an hour before coming to the office to calm you, to general anesthesia.
