Ear Cancer Reconstruction.
This 86-year-old man known to have serious cardiovascular disease, diabetes and hypertension, treated with several medications including 4 blood thinners, presented to our clinic after being treated with topical agent for Ear cancer for the past 2 years.
It was contra-indicated for his general health status to be under general anesthesia whatsoever. He was turned down elsewhere because, ideally for his case, a rib graft along with flaps, necessitating general anesthesia, are required.
We had to give him a new ear no matter what! Here's what we did, under pure local anesthesia. The procedure included 2 stages.
The first stage included a post-auricular unilateral concha-mastoid composite flap to cover the anterior defect.
The second stage included an extended post-auricular cervical flap including a lateral plastysmaplasty to cover the posterior defect and give him back a natural ear contour.
