A look back at the Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness campaign held this past September at AUB and AUBMC.

Throughout September, the Zaim ILD Center team engaged students, staff, patients, and visitors to raise awareness about pulmonary fibrosis, highlight the importance of early detection, and share practical lung health resources.

Thank you to everyone who passed by our booths, asked questions, and took part in the screenings and activities. Awareness starts with conversations and every one of them matters.

The Hamdi Al Zaim Interstitial Lung Disease Center at AUBMC concluded its participation in the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation Summit 2025 in Chicago, the largest global meeting dedicated to pulmonary fibrosis (PF) and interstitial lung disease (ILD) research and education.

The Center's director, Dr. Ahmad Husari, accompanied by Ms Sabah Hajj Omar RN, presented two scientific abstracts, highlighting ongoing work in ILD diagnosis, management and education.

This participation reinforces the Center’s commitment to advancing pulmonary fibrosis awareness, contributing to international research efforts, and representing Lebanon and the MENA region at major global health platforms.

Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Day at ABC Verdun

On September 20, 2025, as part of Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month, the Hamdi Al Zaim Interstitial Lung Disease Center at AUBMC held an activation event at ABC Verdun to engage the public, raise awareness about lung fibrosis, and highlight the importance of early detection.

Visitors participated in breathing games, received educational resources, and had the chance to take a spirometry test to check their lung health — all under the guidance of the Center's medical team.

Together, we continue to advocate for better awareness, earlier diagnosis, and improved care for patients living with pulmonary fibrosis and other rare lung diseases.

Advancing Knowledge on Rare Lung Diseases 🌍🫁

On August 7–8, 2025, the Hamdi Al Zaim Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Center at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, in collaboration with the Professional Development Center - AUB, hosted the 1st ILD Training Course, bringing together healthcare professionals from Lebanon and the region for two days of specialized learning, exchange, and collaboration.

- Day 1 focused on the diagnostic approach — covering clinical evaluation, lab studies, radiology techniques, and identifying specific ILD patterns.
- Day 2 addressed the practical aspects of expanding ILD care capacity, including:
✅ Establishing specialized ILD centers
✅Implementing diagnostic tests and biobanking
✅Running multidisciplinary case conferences
✅Developing patient support groups
✅Defining a vision and mission for long-term impact

The course was led by Dr. Ahmad Husari, Director of the Hamdi Al Zaim ILD Center, and concluded with a study tour of the center followed by a walk through the historic AUB campus.

The event highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in advancing early diagnosis and improving ILD care in Lebanon and the MENA region.

On Saturday, May 3, 2025, the Hamdi Al Zaim ILD Center at the AUBMC - American University of Beirut Medical Center organized a Lung Health Awareness Day at ABC Verdun.

The event offered free spirometry testing, free consultations with Dr. Ahmad Husari, the Center's director, and lung health awareness activities for the public. It was an opportunity to highlight the importance of early detection and provide information about rare Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILD).
