Candy Store
I was recently on a trip and took my 11 year old to a candy store. We walked in and the look in his eyes was priceless, so despite my values on processed sugar and kids, I could not help but give him the green light to buy anything and everything he wanted.
He filled his basket with bags of Sour Patch, spicy chips, Twizzlers, M&Ms, bubble gum, and gummy bears among many other sweet treats.
As I’m reflecting on my life, I realize that just like Marc’s trip to the store I’m currently in a candy store of my own. I chose to challenge the misconception that growing older is a bad thing….
While some days may seem sour and tough to handle, I have the ability to easily twist them into a colorful and sweet experience.
I have days where life is spicy and adventurous while others require more effort and ‘chewing’ on to finish the day.
The multi colored life I have; love, amazing kids, health, family, healthy parents, amazing brothers and sisters (in law), friends, the perfect career, and being able to wake up in the most beautiful place on earth make my candy store the greatest visit on earth.
I think it’s time we challenge the misconception that we are getting older or aging.
Not in a ‘age like fine wine kind’ of way, instead of life with a balance of spice, sour, color, and sweets.
