Four members of the American University of Beirut (AUB) community have been appointed to the recently formed Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO, a body that gathers experts and public figures to advance education, culture, science, and communication in Lebanon, in line with UNESCO's mission.

مرصد العمارة والمدينة في بيت بيروت 

مرصد العمارة والمدينة في بيت بيروت مساحة مخصصة للناشطين في مجالات العمارة، التنظيم المدني، التنمية الإقليمية، وتصميم المشاهد. من خلال المعارض والمؤتمرات، يسعى المرصد إلى تحفيز النقاش العام حول البيئة المبنية. يبحث في القضايا الأساسية التي تؤثرعلى قابلية العيش في المدن، مثل الحيزالعام، حق السكن، النقل المشترك، الحدائق والمساحات الترفيهية.

 يركز مرصد بيت بيروت على ثلاث محاور رئيسية نعتقد أنها تحدد اليوم دورالفاعلين في مجال البيئة المبنية في لبنان.

المحافظة على التراث،ترميم البيئة والمدينة، المشاركة في الحيز العام.

يروج المرصد للجودة المعمارية، والحفاظ على تراث المدينة ، سواء في شكله المادي أو اللامادي، وحماية المساحات الطبيعية والتنوع البيولوجي.

يهدف المرصد إلى رفع مستوى الوعي تجاه المخاطر التي تهدد المدينة، منها الحرب والكوارث الطبيعية والغير طبيعية، التلوث، المضاربة العقارية، والفوضى العمرانية.

 كما يسعى إلى مشاركة الجمهورالتحديات التي تواجه الخدمات العامة، مثل شبكات توزيع المياه والطاقة، معالجة المياه المبتذلة، فرز النفايات، ووسائل النقل المشترك..

يجمع المرصد بين جمعيات وباحثين ومبادرات من بينها: المركز العربي للعمارة، مبادرة حسن الجوار في الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت، استديو اشغال عامة والمجموعة للعمارة في لبنان.

Our appreciation goes to our Alumnus Samer Nuwayhid and to Olivia Marti for organising this campaign to help displaced Lebanese families in these unprecedented difficult times. Part of the donations was dedicated to support the AUB Neighborhood Initiative relief efforts in Ras Beirut. Warm clothing was a priority as the weather is getting colder. Giving children the pleasure of choosing their new shoes was so heartwarming. This too shall pass🌿.

We have been helping our displaced families at the Ras Beirut Public School with 440 people including 70 kids snd 40 elderly. Thank you and for food distribution and ingredients .space for cooking for clothes, hygeine products, food supplies, 30 mattresses and 100 pillows, .minnie for 100 mattresses, volunteers for the amazing support and for all the community members that showed up at the school with their children and friends carrying food boxes and hygeine supplies to help out in these difficult times. Together we shall rise snd this too shall pass🌿

"Children of this Land" is a musical evening with Amal Kaawash and friends on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Al Madina Theatre.
