So, here are 5 common things that can contribute to problems in the spine and nervous system and how to correct them:
1. Diaper Changing
The common way parents change diapers is by grabbing the ankles and lifting the lower body up in the air off the change pad. The best way to change the diaper is by rolling them to one side and then the other. This keeps their spine neutral and in proper alignment and causes less stress on it.
2. Car seats
Minimize unnecessary time spent in the car seats and strollers. When choosing a car seat, find ones with the widest seat base, this allows the legs to be able to be spread out. There should be enough space in between the knees.
3. Baby Carriers (Bodywrap)
Look for one with good support for you and encourages baby’s knees to be above their hips in a frog leg or M position. This allows the thigh to support the knee joint, which leads to less force on hip joint.
4. Baby Jumpers/ walkers (supportive devices)
don’t place them in until they are able to sit/ stand on their own. Putting them in these positions before they are developmentally ready can cause a lot of stress on their joints and potentially cause developmental delays.
5. Rock’n Play
having the babies strapped in, forces them into the C position. With misalignment in the neck, if they prefer to have it turned to the left or right, it causes a lot of pressure on that side of their head, potentially leading to plagiocephaly (flat head).
