When I got accepted at St Georgeโ€™s Hospital, University of London - I was leaning towards ๐†๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ฅ ๐’๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ Unaware that during oneโ€™s training the chances are high to change oneโ€™s mind. General surgery was a bit gory, nevertheless, very satisfying.

Orthopedic surgery ๐Ÿฆฟ was a great subspecialty, where I can utilize carpentryโ›“ skills. So, I thought Orthopedics is the specialty for me.

But my world was turned ๐’–๐’‘๐’”๐’Š๐’…๐’† ๐’…๐’๐’˜๐’ when I got introduced to ๐Ž๐›๐ฌ๐†๐ฒ๐ง๐Ÿ‘ถ. We were extremely lucky to have a great mentor, ๐™ฟ๐š›๐š˜๐š๐šŽ๐šœ๐šœ๐š˜๐š› ๐™ถ๐šŽ๐š˜๐š๐š๐š›๐šŽ๐šข ๐™ฒ๐š‘๐šŠ๐š–๐š‹๐šŽ๐š›๐š•๐šŠ๐š’๐š—, to guide us through this complicated subject, women๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ health in general and mother and fetus๐Ÿคฑ in particular.

Around the same time the specialty was evolving at a very fast paceโฑ, with the introduction of IVF, ultrasonography and soon followed by minimally invasive surgery. ๐Ÿ’‰

So, ๐Ž๐›๐ฌ๐†๐ฒ๐ง. was it. ๐Ÿ‘ˆ

Furthermore, I was the first 1๏ธโƒฃin my class in the subject, the only subject. Also, I had a great two-month student elective at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney - Australia with Professor Saunders. That exposure ๐œ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ my decision to become an ObsGyn.

Fibroids are noncancerous growths of the uterus that often appear during childbearing years.

Fibroids can develop in different parts of the uterus, leading to various symptoms based on their location. The three main types are:

๐Ÿ‘‰Submucosal Fibroids: These fibroids develop just beneath the inner lining of the uterus (endometrium).
๐Ÿ‘‰Intramural Fibroids: They are located within the muscular wall of the uterus.
๐Ÿ‘‰Subserosal Fibroids: These grow on the outside of the uterus, extending outward.

The location of uterine fibroids matters because it has an impact on symptoms and treatment options.
