SANAD is an independent non-governmental non-profit organization established in January 2010 in an effort to provide dignity and quality of life to terminally-ill patients and their families and the last and most precious times of their lives. Our focus is on the preservation of dignity and relief of suffering in patients with terminal illness in order to maintain the best possible quality of life

. We strive to empower patients and their families to become skilled in their own care and allow them to make informed choices that are in line with their values and beliefs. We aim to provide holistic care to address the medical, psychological and social needs of patients and their caregivers. This includes management of pain and other symptoms as well as treatment of medical complications. These services are delivered to patients regardless of nationality, religion, political affiliation, gender, diagnosis or ability to pay. SANAD is committed to researching and addressing policy challenges related to the provision of palliative care. In order to advance its mission, SANAD will also focus on advocating for the removal of existing barriers within the health care system that may affect the ability of individuals to access palliative care. In parallel, SANAD will also undertake extensive awareness raising activities at the levels of the community and the medical and nursing professions to facilitate a better understanding of the issues and the concepts behind hospice and palliative care in Lebanon. Last month, SANAD delivered a four-day Generalist Training in Palliative and Hospice Care for healthcare workers from the Nabih Berri Governmental University Hospital of Nabatieh. The sessions took place in Beirut and were kindly hosted on the premises of Rafik Hariri University Hospital.

As part of SANAD’s ongoing commitment to advancing palliative care in Lebanon, this training was delivered as a community service initiative to support public healthcare institutions and to help expand the knowledge and expertise of medical professionals. Through such initiatives, SANAD strives to strengthen the reach of hospice and palliative care, ensuring that more patients and families across Lebanon can receive the dignity, comfort, and support they deserve.

We extend our gratitude to Rafik Hariri University Hospital for providing the venue for this training.

الشهر الماضي، قدّمت جمعية سند للرعاية التلطيفية في لبنان تدريباً عاماً مكثفاً على مدى أربعة أيام في مجال الرعاية التلطيفية والرعاية في نهاية الحياة للعاملين في القطاع الصحي في مستشفى نبيه بري الحكومي الجامعي – النبطية. وقد أُقيمت الجلسات في بيروت واستضافها مشكوراً مستشفى رفيق الحريري الجامعي في حرم المستشفى.

وانطلاقاً من التزام سند الدائم بتعزيز خدمات الرعاية التلطيفية في لبنان، تم تقديم هذا التدريب كمبادرة لخدمة المجتمع، لدعم المستشفيات الحكومية والمساهمة في تطوير معرفة وخبرات كوادرها الطبية. من خلال هذه المبادرات، تسعى سند إلى توسيع نطاق الرعاية التلطيفية والرعاية المنزلية لتصل إلى عدد أكبر من المرضى وعائلاتهم، بما يضمن لهم الكرامة والراحة والدعم الذي يستحقونه.

نتوجّه بجزيل الشكر إلى مستشفى رفيق الحريري الجامعي على استضافته لهذا التدريب.

Today, we are reminded that dignity, compassion, and care are not privileges, they are rights. The World Health Organization recognizes palliative care as a human right, because every person deserves comfort, support, and relief from suffering at the most vulnerable stage of life.

Hospice and palliative care mean more than medical support, they mean honoring a person’s humanity, ensuring they are not left to suffer in silence, and surrounding families with the strength and guidance they need. To deny this care is to deny dignity itself.

On this day, we stand with the global humanitarian movement and reaffirm our mission: to ensure that no patient and no family in Lebanon walks this journey alone.

Your voice, your support, and your compassion make this possible. Together, we can keep dignity, comfort, and humanity alive, even in the face of terminal illness.

Join us. Advocate. Support. Stand with SANAD. Because palliative care is not just healthcare, it is a human right.

"What do I need to know about you as a person to give you the best care possible?"

This simple yet profound question- known as the Patient Dignity Question (PDQ)- has transformed how clinicians around the world connect with their patients.

Originally developed by Dr. Harvey Max Chochinov, the PDQ isn't just a question. It's a gateway to personhood in healthcare. It's an invitation for patients to share who they are beyond their illness -and for caregivers to truly listen.

When applied meaningfully, the PDQ:

✅ Enhances empathy and trust
✅ Improves communication with patients and families
✅ Strengthens provider connection to their work
✅ Helps preserve dignity in even the most vulnerable moments

But for it to work, it must be a conversation, not a checklist.

Because person-centered care starts when we ask, with sincerity:

💬 “How do you want to be seen?”
💬 “What matters most to you?”
💬 “Who are you beyond your diagnosis?”

In the words of Dr. Chochinov:

“Patients won’t care what you know until they know that you care.”

جمعية سند للرعاية التلطيفية في لبنان تختار الملحن والمنتج والموزع الموسيقي جان ماري رياشي سفيراً لها

تُعلن جمعية سند للرعاية التلطيفية في لبنان عن انضمام الملحن والمنتج والموزع الموسيقي اللبناني جان ماري رياشي إلى عائلة سفرائها، في خطوة جديدة تعكس التزامه الإنساني وشغفه بدعم القضايا الصحية والاجتماعية التي تمس حياة الناس وكرامتهم.

تأسست جمعية سند عام 2010، كأول جمعية للرعاية التلطيفية في لبنان، بهدف تقديم رعاية شاملة ومتكاملة للمرضى المصابين بأمراض مزمنة وعضال في مراحلهم الأخيرة، في منازلهم وبين أحبائهم، دون أي مقابل. وتحرص الجمعية على صون كرامة المرضى وتخفيف معاناتهم، إلى جانب تقديم الدعم لأسرهم، مع تعزيز الوعي المجتمعي بأهمية الرعاية التلطيفية.

ويأتي انضمام جان ماري رياشي، المعروف بمسيرته الموسيقية الثرية وإبداعه الذي لامس قلوب الناس، إضافةً إلى حسّه الإنساني العالي وحرصه الدائم على دعم المبادرات التي تصون كرامة الإنسان وتخفف ألمه، والمساهمة في إيصال صوت الجمعية ورسالتها إلى جمهور واسع.

وعلّقت السيدة لبنى عزالدين، رئيسة جمعية سند، بالقول:

بكل امتنان وفخر، نختتم أمسيةً لا تُنسى تُوّجت بالنجاح يوم الخميس 3 تموز 2025 في البارك البلدي في زحلة، مع سفير سند الفنان ملحم زين.

امتلأت المقاعد بمحبي سند وداعميها الأوفياء، وجوهٌ عرفتنا منذ البداية وأخرى انضمّت حديثًا لتكون جزءًا من رسالتنا الإنسانية.

شهدت الأمسية حضور شخصيات بارزة من البقاع وأصدقاء ومناصرين كرّسوا وقتهم وجهدهم لدعم رسالتنا، إضافةً إلى كلمة ألقتها رئيسة جمعية سند السيدة لبنى عز الدين حول أهمية مواصلة العطاء لضمان كرامة وراحة مرضانا حتى اللحظة الأخيرة.

قدّم الفنان ملحم زين وصلةً طربيةً أضاءت القلوب بصوته الأصيل، وتخلّل الحفل لحظات مميّزة، من بينها عرض مؤثر عن مسيرة سند، أجواء الفرح حول أكشاك الطعام والشراب المتنوّعة، وحتى لحظة جميلة لخِطبة عروسين شاركانا هذه الليلة.

مثل هذا الحفل ليس مجرّد سهرة فنية، بل شريان حياةٍ يمدّنا بالطاقة والإمكانيات لنواصل تقديم الرعاية التلطيفية دون أي مقابل لعائلات تستحق كل الحب والدعم.
