๐บHydrate and eat a healthy meal before your donation. It is important that before giving blood, donors drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious foods, rich in iron such as red meat, fish, poultry, beans spinach, iron-fortified cereals or raisins.
๐บFoods rich in Vitamin C (such as citrus fruit) help your body absorb the iron you eat.
๐บAvoid drinking tea, coffee and other caffeinated beverages with meals since caffeine can reduce iron absorption.
๐บIf you're following a vegan or vegetarian diet, prunes, prune juice, and blackstrap molasses are all good sources of iron.
๐บIf you're dieting, ease up a bit and eat slightly larger portions of protein foods and vegetables the day before your donation.

๐บDonโt forget your post-donation snack. Blood contains many substances including red blood cells (full of iron), white blood cells, plasma and platelets, plus water and various nutrients and minerals, which is why itโs critical that donors replenish their bodies with post-donation snacks.
๐บDrink plenty of fluids over the next 24-48 hours to replenish any fluids you lost during donation.
๐บDo not skip any meals and make sure to eat after your donation.
๐บAvoid strenuous physical activity or heavy lifting for about 24 hours after donation.
