I know a lot of people who constantly think about being fit, eating healthy, meditating, sometimes compensating for extra food eaten at a previous meal...
Is that considered an eating disorder?
Not necessarily.
It starts to become a problem when it becomes the person’s number one concern. When it starts affecting their quality of life and how happy they are.
You might suffer from an eating disorder without knowing it.
And no, an eating disorder is not about what you’re eating, but what is constantly eating you.
Treatment will not make you gain weight (unless you need to!).
Treatment will not make you unfit.
Treatment will increase your quality of life by enhancing a lot of areas including: your body perception, your food intake, your exercising, your relationships, your sexual orientations, and most importantly, your inner peace.
If you doubt you have an eating disorder, DM me and I’ll send you, in all confidentiality, the instruments you need to get diagnosed.
It all starts by acknowledging something is not OK.

You know these days when you wake up and feel like you can’t stand your body...can’t stand looking in the mirror, and can’t even stand putting cloths on?
Isn’t it weird that out of the blue you are not feeling ok in your body anymore even though the day before you were fine?
Not weird at all :)
Did you know that a lot of times, when you suffer from an eating disorder (or disordered eating behaviors), your brain will tell you something is not ok in your life by making you feel uncomfortable in your body???
Well now, you know. So next time you are having a bad body image day, stop and think:”What is going on in my life that I can’t control and that is making me feel like this?”.
The answer will probably have nothing to do with your body and your food. Maybe you are economically frustrated, maybe there were last minute changes in your plans due to the country’s situation, maybe you feel stuck in an area of your life (work, a relationship...), maybe you had a fight with someone you care about, etc.
Next time you have a bad body image day, stop & figure out what is going wrong in your life. What is happening in your life that you can’t control and that is actually urging you to take charge of the only thing you think you can control: your food and your body?

Body shaming is an important social issue in Lebanon! Please think twice before you want to comment on someone’s weight, shape &/or appearance 🙏🏻

“You can only take people as far as you have come”...
I wanted to share this with you for two main reasons:
1. Whenever you are looking for someone to help you with your relationship with food and your body, please make sure you are looking for a healthcare professional who is QUALIFIED and SPECIALIZED enough to help you in this journey.
Also, make sure that this person is fully at peace with his/her body and his/her relationship with food (i.e. is NOT SUFFERING from an EATING DISORDER or not fully recovered from one!).
2. When I ask my patients to start putting themselves first, especially in their relationships with other people and in their self-care practice, a lot of them tell me they have a deep sense of selfishness and guilt that comes with putting themselves first.
However, how can you possibly be the best version of yourself if you don’t consistently and respectfully put yourself first? How can you be of help and care in your relationships if you can’t do that to yourself?
Bottom line:
- A lot of individuals in Lebanon are claiming they are specialized in eating disorders. Make sure they truly are specialized and make sure they are not suffering from an eating disorder themselves.
- You, unapologetically, come first in your life. Be the best version of yourself in order to be the best version in your relationships and responsibilities.

What is “disciplined flexibility”?
It’s about learning to let go of the “all or nothing” rigid mindset while falling into the “in-between” range of any behavioral spectrum.
While working with individuals that have the rigid “all or nothing” mindset, I try to get them to manage their eating, exercising, and body image to an “in-between” mindset, a “is this helping to create a better life for myself?” mindset (Scritchfield, 2016).
Whether you are bingeing (all) or restricting (nothing), the goal is to find the behaviors that will help you become an intuitive eater, and be kind to your body.
Whether you are overexercising (all) or not lifting a finger (nothing), the goal is to find the behaviors that will help you become physically active, while enjoying movement and being kind to your body.
Whether you body check all day to know if you’ve gained or lost weight (all) or are completely avoiding your body (nothing), the goal is to find the behaviors that will help you accept your shape and be kind to your body.
When you are doing something or thinking about something, always ask yourself “Is this helping me to create a better life for myself?”

Learning how not to take things personally has been deeply liberating in my life.
Learning that a comment given by someone is mainly about them and not about you, can be very helpful. Especially in dealing with fatphobic comments such as “you have gained weight” or “should you be eating that?” or even “dieting is all about willpower”.
Think twice about what you say to people around you because it mainly reflects how you feel about yourself.

There is no “right” or “wrong” type of hunger.
However it’s important to know that several types of hunger exist and that they are different from physical hunger.
It’s important to be aware of them. Because if you are aware of them, and you know that what you are truly feeling is not physical hunger, then you will be able to make a rational decision whether to eat or not.

As an eating disorders specialist, I have the chance to work with extremely smart, talented, and beautiful individuals.
True, my patients are also obsessive (let’s say picky and detail oriented 🤓), type A perfectionists who see in black or white and who know about nutrition and fitness more than a lot of healthcare professionals.
However, to whomever I’ve worked or am working with, I might have never told you this before but I am deeply grateful to have the chance to send you on your FULL POTENTIAL PATH.
I am deeply grateful that you make my work challenging (driving me nuts sometimes 🤫) and never (ever) boring!
I don’t like mechanical (i.e. i have to do this) posts, which is why I am not very active on social media. I post when I feel like it.
And today, I feel like thanking every single person who has allowed me in their life and hopefully, is set on the right track.
Thank you 🌹

“Only love leads to love”!

“I only want to lose some kilos & I’ll definitely love my body afterwards”
“I only want to remove/change/add & I will never nag about my body anymore” .

Well, I’m sorry to tell you but you CANNOT hate your body into loving it 😊

If you think that when you look at yourself & say “I wish I was less/more…” / “I hate my…/ I look like a pig”, you’re making yourself feel better about the way your body is, well think again 🤞

How does devaluing the body that works so hard to keep you alive make you love yourself more? 🤔
How does pressuring yourself to be something other than who you are give you your own identity & self? 🤔
How does damaging the only body you’ll ever live in make it better? 🤔

Only love leads to love, therefore love it, today & everyday! 💓
