🍇 You may have heard of resveratrol supplements of PCOS, but do they actually work?

🍷 Resveratrol is an antioxidant found in red grapes, red wine and some berries. Although some research suggests that resveratrol can have a positive impact on PCOS, but studies are very limited and are mainly done in labs and on animals.

🍇 This means you don’t need to take resveratrol supplements if you have PCOS. You can however enjoy red grapes and red wine in moderation (if you drink alcohol).

👉🏻 Always remember to consult your doctor before taking any supplement.

🤔 Berberine, a supplement that is currently being promoted for PCOS, insulin resistance and weight loss.
Is it worth the hype though?

There is very little research that shows effectiveness of berberine in improving PCOS and insulin resistance.

That does not mean that taking berberine will significantly improve your symproms, especially if it’s the only thing that you’re doing, without changing your diet and lifestyle.

Additionally, PCOS is a chronic condition, meaning long term treatments are needed. However, there are no long term studies to check safety of taking berberine supplements or if it shows effectiveness on the long run.

⚠️ Always be critical of what you see on the internet and social media (especially when it comes to promoting supplements or products that claim to be the next magical cure for a certain condition that you have!) and make sure you consult your doctor before taking any supplement!

Did you know that 40% of women athletes in the Olympics have PCOS? Having higher levels of androgens such as testorterone, makes it easier for women to build muscle and perform better in sports.

Did you know that half of women with PCOS develop type 2 diabetes by the age of 40? Being associated with insulin resistance, women with PCOS are at a higher risk of developing diabetes. For this reason healthy nutrition and lifestyle play an important role in the prevention of diabetes.

👩🏻‍⚕️ About the guest speaker: Dr. Lamia Sayegh is a specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility with over 10 years of experience. She received her medical degree from the Lebanese University of Beirut than completed a four-year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the American university of Beirut.
DR Lamia is working in Fakih Infertility center since 2013, she contributed during these years to the birth of many healthy babies and to the evolving health and fertility awareness and disease management trends in the MENA region.
In addition to her clinical duties, Dr lamia has a special interest in education and research. She was a lecturer and the program director of the residency program in The Arab University of Beirut between 2018 and 2020.
Shehas also presented papers on controversial subjects in reproductive medicine at Middle East fertility Society yearly conferences and her research work has been published in many international and National journals.

😍 September is PCOS awareness month! 😍

👉🏻 Polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common health conditions affecting women of reproductive age, yet there is not enough awareness about it.

👉🏻 Half of the PCOS cases remain undiagnosed, and for many women it takes years and visits to several doctors before getting a proper diagnosis.

👉🏻 PCOS can affect different areas of a woman’s life including both her physical and mental health, as well as her social and s*xual life.

🤩 This year, I’m so excited to be collaborating with experts and specialists in different areas, to raise awareness on the impact of PCOS and how to navigate through them.

🤩 Stay tuned for a month full of IG LIVE sessions, PCOS facts, tips to improve and manage symptoms, and ways to support those who live with PCOS.

🩸If your period becomes regular with treatment, this simply means that your PCOS is now well managed and under control.

🩸Unfortunately, PCOS is a chronic condition that doesn’t go away. Which means in order to keep your symptoms under control and your period regular, you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle, take your medications and/or supplements regularly (if indicated), and have your yearly checkups with your doctor.

🩸Also, not everyone with PCOS experiences irregular periods.
