_Strengthening Skills, Saving Lives_

We were honoured to host the second CPR training session for 8 nursing officers and 4 medical doctors at Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura on 23rd May, under the supervision of Dr. Nilmini Wijesooriya, Chair of the Resuscitation Council of the College of Anesthesiologists and Intensivists of Sri Lanka (CAISL) and Dr. Anushka Seneviratne, General Secretary of CAISL.

We are proud to share that our department is now an accredited course centre by the Resuscitation Council of CAISL to conduct CPR training programs.

A significant milestone in our efforts to build a stronger culture of emergency preparedness and patient centered care.

A huge thanks to our faculty, participants, and supporters who continue to push this initiative forward.

_Restarting with Purpose From where We Left_

After a short pause and some determined troubleshooting, we are proud to announce that the Department of Anesthesia at Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura has restarted the CPR training program for nursing officers and medical doctors!

The session was held on 9th May at the Skill Lab of THA with 2 medical doctors and 8 nursing officers as candidates.

It remark a significant step forward in our ongoing mission to strengthen the emergency response skills and reshape the attitudes toward patient care.

A heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to bringing this program back to life.

The third CPR Training Program for Medicos at RUSL for the year 2025 was conducted on 29th of April, for 36 final year medical students of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka.

The program was organized in collaboration with the Department of Medicine and Medical Students’ Union at RUSL

_Advancing Clinical Excellence in 2025_

The second Morbidity and Mortality Review Meeting for the year 2025 was held on March 25th at the main auditorium of Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura.

This session emphasized the importance of mental well-being among anesthetists, featuring a thought-provoking discussion on maintaining wellness amid chaos, led by Dr. Lakshika Randeniya (Consultant Psychiatrist, THA). The program also included a guided yoga session to promote relaxation and mindfulness.

The Department of Anesthesia remains dedicated to conducting regular review meetings to foster a culture of continuous learning, workplace well-being, and enhanced patient care.

_Life Support Without Borders_

The second program of saving lives of 2025 was conducted on 24th March at Divisional Hospital Nochiyagama with our proud products from Rajarata Resus Club .

Nearly 30 participants, including medical officers, nursing officers, public health midwives, and healthcare assistants were trained in essential life-saving skills to better respond to cardiac emergencies outside the hospital setting.

The department will be planning on a series of these type of outreach programs to strengthen community response and improve outcomes in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.

_Advancing Clinical Excellence in 2025_

The first Morbidity and Mortality Review Meeting for the year 2025 was successfully held on February 25th at the main auditorium of Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura.

The session featured in depth case discussions aimed at enhancing patient care, along with a hands-on workshop on Front of Neck Access (FONA) for our medical officers and registrars.

We were also proud to present the “Clap of the Month” certificate to Dr. Saumya Seneviratna for her exemplary management of a difficult airway scenario.

The department remains committed to hosting regular meetings of this nature to promote continuous professional development and strengthen the quality of care we deliver.

_Life Support Without Borders_

We are proud to announce the successful launch of our first Basic Life Support program for 2025, conducted on February 11th at Divisional Hospital Mihinthale.

Nearly 30 participants, including medical officers, nursing officers, public health midwives, and healthcare assistants were trained in essential life-saving skills to better respond to cardiac emergencies outside the hospital setting.

The Morbidity & Mortality Review Meeting for the month of December 2024 was successfully held at the Main Auditorium of Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura on 17th of December 2024, by the Department of Anesthesia.

The meeting featured 5 case-based discussions on ‘Difficult Airway’, ‘Bronchospasm’, ’Cardiac arrest During DDKT’, ‘Laryngospasm’ and ‘reperfusion injury’ by the anesthetists of the department.

As a commemoration, the clap of the month for October and December awarded to Dr Lalith Sagara and Dr Sachini Nishalika respectively, while the clap of the year 2024 presented to Dr Gunendraraja.

The program concluded with a workshop on ‘Acid-base balance and blood gas interpretation’.

The department hosts this monthly MMRM to enhance the quality of patient care and academic standards among medical officers.

The CPR program for doctors and nursing officers conducted by the Department of Anaesthesiology- Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura in collaboration with Anuradhapura Clinical Society was successfully executed on the 20th of December 2024.

It was the 20th CPR program for the year 2024, targeting healthcare professionals. The department will arrange this program every 1st Tuesday and 3rd Friday of the month.

The CPR program for final year medical student of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka was successfully conducted by the Department of Anaesthesiology - Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura in collaboration with the Department of Medicine - RUSL on 8th of November 2024.

This was the 6th program of the year 2024. This will be arranged during the professorial medical appointment of final year students to uplift the knowledge and essential life-saving clinical skills.
