The Dr. Nalin Rodrigo Memorial Oration 2024 was held on 29th December 2024 at the Samson Rajapaksa Auditorium, SLCOG House, Colombo 08.

The orator was Dr. Kumara Dissanayake (MBBS, MD, MRCOG), the Head and Senior Lecturer of, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, and the Director of the Rajarata Gynecological Endoscopy Center (RAGEC).

Dr. Kumara Dissanayake delivered an insightful presentation titled, “High Precision with Minimal Invasion: How Laparoscopy Revolutionizes Benign Gynecological Surgeries.”

Surgical removal of the uterus (womb) is known as . It is a major surgery. When it is done by laparoscopic method, it is called laparoscopic hysterectomy. Hysterectomy is required to remove the uterus (womb) when it has a diseased condition like fibroids (non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the womb), (thickening of the uterine wall) and also due to uncontrolled abnormal uterine bleeding. The laparoscopic approach for hysterectomy carries many advantages over the open approach such as less pain, less discomfort, less risk of infection cosmetically better scars, and fast recovery and return to normal activity.
