Base hospital Wathupitiwala
The hospital was established in 1910 in a premises of 17 acres donated by Mrs.J.P.Obesekara to uplift the health condition of the people at Wathupitiwala area which is situated near the border of Western & Sabaragamuwa provinces, 3 km away from the Colombo – Kandy road.
Base hospital Wathupitiwala is the third largest hospital in Gampaha District which is known as the most populated district in the country while it is identified as one of the district which needs constant expansion of health services. It is located at Wathupitiwala with a close proximity to export processing zone at Wathupitiwala.
Wathupitiwala hospital operates with 600 bed strength and human resources of 17 Medical consultants, 143 medical officers, 03 dental surgeons,333 nursing officers,50 paramedical staff 200 health care assistants and 20 office staff. It serves around 80,000 inpatients 250,000 OPD patients 250,000 clinic patients 4000 deliveries annually with significant number of major and minor surgeries. Clients of the hospital are driveled from different ethnic groups living peacefully in the area such as Sinhalese, Muslims, Tamils and others.
