We closed the 2025 Sector Committee year with a special session on the 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝟱 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱.

A big thank you to Dushyantha Perera (Sudath Perera Associates) and Shiluka Goonewardene (KPMG) for the valuable insights shared.

In 2025, AHK Sri Lanka hosted 24+ Sector Committee meetings across seven sectors, enabling direct dialogue with key authorities including Sri Lanka Customs, the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), the Board of Investment (BOI), and the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), ensuring member voices were heard where it matters most.

Yesterday, AHK Sri Lanka had the pleasure of hosting an insightful session with the experts from D. L. & F. De Saram on “𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗿𝗶 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗮’𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁 (𝗣𝗗𝗣𝗔)” within the context of employment law.

We extend our sincere thanks to the speakers for their clear, practical, and easy-to-understand presentation. The session covered mandatory PDPA compliance requirements, complemented by a useful comparison with the EU’s GDPR. Particular attention was given to recruitment, employment, and termination processes, highlighting key challenges and obligations for HR teams and employers.

With strong participation from companies across diverse industries, the high level of engagement clearly reflected the growing importance of data protection compliance.

As Sri Lanka continues to position itself as an attractive destination for foreign investment, robust data protection practices are becoming increasingly critical.

We thank D. L. & F. de Saram once again for sharing their expertise and supporting the business community in navigating effective PDPA compliance.

AHK Sri Lanka had the pleasure of hosting its final HR Sector Committee Meeting of 2025, in cooperation with Allianz Insurance Lanka Limited.

The session featured an engaging discussion on “Leading with Care”, highlighting the power of micro-behaviours and the role they play in fostering psychologically safe and inclusive workplace cultures.

One key takeaway was the importance of self-awareness. How often do we consciously reflect on how our facial expressions or gestures impact others? Or take the time to openly discuss emotions in the workplace? This session encouraged exactly that—leaving participants feeling more aware, connected, and engaged.

Thank you to everyone who joined and contributed to this meaningful discussion, and special thanks to the Allianz team for their excellent organisation.

👋 Meet Our New Legal Trainee – Demi Pröpper

Demi joins us from Cologne, where she completed her legal studies with a special focus on international law.

Before joining AHK Sri Lanka, Demi gained practical experience as a Trainee at the Employment Court and at an international law firm.

During her time at the firm, her team contributed to the Annual Global Reports of the IBA’s Global Employment Institute. Through this work, she analysed labour market dynamics and legal developments across various jurisdictions. These experiences enable her to offer valuable comparative insights into global labour market trends within our organisation.

Her decision to pursue part of her legal traineeship in Sri Lanka was inspired by her studies, during which she completed a Certificate in United States Law. This sparked her curiosity for exploring different legal cultures and broadened her interest in international legal systems. Recognizing Sri Lanka’s evolving legal and commercial landscape driven by expanding business opportunities, she saw the country as the ideal environment to deepen her understanding of law in a global context.
