Sri Lanka Foundation, was founded in 1974,
with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung of Bonn, as a centre of labour education and training. SLF is a premier non- formal adult education centre in asia with a specific focus on democratization through training and dissemination of knowledge. Its areas of training and education include labour relations, gender equity, community development, grass roots leadership, good governance, disaster management, environment and health. Capacity building of civil society institutions and leadership training for community organizations are also major themes of SLF programs. These programmes are carried out in collaboration with governmental and non governmental institutions, private
sector establishments, universities, trade unions, community and international organization via seminars, workshops,
discussions, publications, the print and electronic media.

Higher National Diploma in Applied Criminology & Criminal Justice System was inaugurated on 16th November 2025 online. This course is designed with the objective of professional development of law enforcement officers. Law enforcement officers representing Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, and government officers engaged in crime & legal fields are following the course.

The National Diploma in Sports Strength & Conditioning first intake for the year 2026 was inaugurated at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on 23rd January 2026. The Human Capital Development Unit organised the event. The course ensures that the physical trainers get national and international standard training, benchmarking professional development. More than 40 participants are enrolled in the course.

Mr R.B Wickramasinghe, national weight lifting coach and former Assistant Director Department of Sports Development and Mr Senaka Wasala Academic registrar Sri Lanka Foundation were present on the occasion. The inauguration of the Higher National Diploma in Criminal Law was held on 28th December 2025, online. This programme is designed to provide in-depth knowledge of Criminal Law, Evidence Law, Penalty Code, Bail Law, Code of Criminal Procedure Law and other criminal statutes. It is aimed to develop legal capacity of students, public officers, law enforcement personnel, and those seeking a professional pathway in the legal field.

The occasion was graced by the presence of academic staff & legal professionals, highlighting the importance of criminal law education in strengthening justice, governance, and the rule of law in Sri Lanka.

Former DIG Mr. Ajith Hesiri participated as the keynote speaker, sharing his knowledge and experience. The lectures of Course are conducted by a panel of experienced legal professionals. Mrs. Sarojini Wickramasinghe, Senior Lecturer of SLFI coordinates the programme.

The Sri Lanka Foundation Institute inaugurated the Advanced Certificate Course in Public Administration on 11th January 2026 online. The occasion featured a keynote address by Mr. Nalaka Dissanayake, Senior Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Public Security & Parliamentary Affairs who emphasised the importance of effective public administration in enhancing governance and service delivery. Participants were introduced to the course syllabus, learning outcomes, and expected competencies upon completion. The course covers five comprehensive modules; Introduction to Public Administration, Office Management, Writing Skills & File Management, Financial & Accounts Systems and Professional Development.

Fifty five (55) Public and Semi-Government employees were enrolled in the course. Ms. Sarojini Wickramasinghe, Senior Lectuter SLFI coordinates the course.

The second intake of the Certificate Course for Sports Masseurs & Manual Therapists 2025 was inaugurated at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on 18th December 2025. The Human Capital Development Unit of the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute organises and conducts this programme in collaboration with the Ministry of Health & Media. More than 60 participants were enrolled in the training course.
Dr Himan De Silva, sports physician at National Hospital Karapitiya and Olympic Doctor, was present on the occasion. The Head of the Human Capital Development Unit, senior lecturer Mr Bharatha Herath, coordinated the programme.

නව ව්‍යවසාකයින් බිහිකිරීම අරමුණු කරගනිමින් ශ්‍රී ලංකා පදනම විසින් සංවිධානය කර ඇති ව්‍යවසායක අත්වැළ නම් වැඩමුළු මාලාවේ පළමුවැන්න වන විසිතුරු ඉටිපහන් නිර්මාණය කිරීමේ වැඩමුළුව 2026 ජනවාරි 10 දින එම ආයනයේ දී ඉතා සාර්ථකව පවත්වන ලදී. අමුද්‍රව්‍ය හඳුන්වා දීම, විවිධ ඉටිපහන් වර්ග නිශ්පාදනය, වෙළඳ පොළ හඳුන්වා දීම මෙහිදී සිදුවුන අතර සෑම වර්ගයකම ඉටිපහන් ප්‍රායෝගිකව සකස් කිරීමේ පුහුණුව තනි තනිව ලබා ගැනීමට සහභාගීවූවන්ට හැකිවිය.
පන්ති කාමර පරිසරයක් තුළ අවම පිරිවැයකින්, නිමාවෙන් සහ ගුණාත්මක බවින් ඉහළ ඉටි පහන් නිපදවීමේ අත්දැකීම් ලබා ගැනීම හේතුවෙන් කුඩා පරිමාණ ව්‍යවසායකත්වය යනු තව දුරටත් හුදු බලාපොරොත්තුවක් නොව යථාර්ථයක් බව පැහැදිළි කිරීමට හැකිවිය. මෙම වැඩමුළුව සංවිධානය කරන ලද්දේ ශ්‍රී ලංකා පදනමේ කතිකාචාර්ය රේණුකා තෙන්නකෝන් මහත්මිය විසිනි.

The first workshop of the “Entrepreneurial Support” workshop series organised by the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on Decorative Candle Making was successfully conducted on 10th January 2026 on the SLFI premises. The workshop series has been launched with the objective of encouraging new entrepreneurs.
The workshop covered introduction of raw materials, production of various types of candles, and overview of the market. Participants were given the opportunity to receive individual practical training in creating different types of candles.
At the end of the one day workshop, participants were able to gain hands on experience in producing high quality, well finished candles at a low cost within a classroom setting, clearly demonstrating that small-scale entrepreneurship is no longer an aspiration but a achievable reality.
The workshop was organised and coordinted by Ms. Renuka Tennakoon, Lecturer at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.
The second decorative candle making workshop is scheduled to be held in May 2026.
