You may see “cinnabar” beads being offered in many places today. Please know that real cinnabar is a mercury mineral and is highly toxic. For this reason, authentic cinnabar is not suitable for jewelry and should never be worn on the skin. True cinnabar belongs as a collector’s stone, kept safely as a display specimen under glass, not shaped into beads or bracelets.

Because real cinnabar is both toxic and rare, most “cinnabar” beads sold today are not real cinnabar. They are usually dyed jade, quartz, or resin-based materials. These materials are not dangerous — but they are also not cinnabar, even when sold under that name.

At Siris, we study crystals deeply — their beauty, their qualities, and their realities. That is why we choose not to sell cinnabar. We believe you deserve to know exactly what you are choosing and what you are paying for.
