The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, King Edward Medical University, proudly hosted the 2nd Cadaveric Workshop on “Latest Trends in Shoulder Arthroscopy.”

The workshop was graced by Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayyaz, Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University, as the esteemed Chief Guest & Patron-in-Chief.

Guests of Honour included Prof. Dr. Ahsan Nauman, Chief Executive Officer Mayo Hospital Lahore and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Moin, Pro-Vice Chancellor of KEMU, both of whom brought their invaluable presence and insights to the event.

The activity was meticulously Chaired by Prof. Faisal Masood Chief Operating Officer Mayo Hospital & Head of Orthopaedics Unit-II KEMU with Dr. Mumraiz Salik Naqshband, Associate Professor KEMU and advisor to PCB serving as the dedicated Course Director.

The workshop was spearheaded by Master Trainer Dr. Sohail Butt FRCS, a distinguished Hand and Upper Limb Surgeon from Dudley NHS Trust, UK, alongside Lead Trainer Dr. Mustafa Bhalli FRCS, a celebrated Upper Limb and Sports Surgeon.

The distinguished national faculty included Brig. Dr. Khalid Zulfiqar Qureshi, Col. Ata ur Rehman & Dr. Shoaib Javed from the Hand & Upper Limb Surgery Centre (HULS), CMH Lahore as well as Prof. Muhammad Iqbal, Dr. Mumraiz Naqshband & Dr. Muhammad Akram from KEMU. Their extensive expertise in managing shoulder injuries and their profound understanding of the pivotal role of arthroscopy significantly enhanced the academic and practical dimensions of the workshop.

This comprehensive event offered a unique hands-on experience, fostering an immersive learning environment that reshaped participants’ perspectives on advanced orthopaedic surgical practices. The workshop featured expertly delivered lectures, interactive discussions, and engaging sessions, offering participants practical insights and cutting-edge knowledge in shoulder arthroscopy.

A key highlight of the event was the address by the Patron-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayyaz, who actively engaged in an interactive session with participants. He commended the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery for its remarkable efforts in organising an unprecedented number of educational events throughout the year. He was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Moin, Pro-Vice Chancellor, whose support and presence added further gravitas to the occasion.

Prof. Dr. Ahsan Nauman, CEO of Mayo Hospital Lahore, lauded the efforts of Prof. Faisal Masood and his team for orchestrating a highly successful and impactful workshop on a topic of such clinical significance.

As part of the event, faculty and participants were given an enriching tour of the historic KEMU campus. They explored the iconic Library Hall in the Patiala Block, immersing themselves in the university's rich heritage.

The day culminated in the Department of Forensic Medicine, where the Cadaveric Session provided invaluable practical training and nuanced perspectives on shoulder arthroscopy.

As the event drew to a close, Course Director Dr. Mumraiz Naqshband, on behalf of Chairman Prof. Faisal Masood, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the international and national faculty for their invaluable contributions. He acknowledged their generosity in sharing their expertise and time, which profoundly enriched the knowledge of all attendees. There was a group photograph with the Chief guest and souvenirs were distributed.

Special thanks were also extended to Dr. Riasat Ali, Chairman of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology KEMU, for his instrumental support in making the Cadaveric Session a resounding success.

This workshop served as a pre-conference event for the 44th KEMUCON, the Annual International Scientific Conference of King Edward Medical University, conducted in collaboration with KEMCAANA, KEMCA-UK, KEMCA-PK, and APPNA.

Through its academic excellence, hands-on training, and unparalleled faculty expertise, this event set a new benchmark for advancing orthopaedic education and innovation.

2nd KEMU Sports Surgery Seminar was organized by the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, King Edward Medical University in collaboration with the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Mayo Hospital Lahore.

The event, held under the esteemed patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayyaz, embodied his vision to elevate KEMU towards excellence. The seminar featured expert talks aimed at ‘Prevention of Sports Injuries’ educating professionals on the diagnosis & treatment of musculoskeletal injuries with the latest updates.

The Chief Guest of the event was pride of Pakistan Mr. Arshad Nadeem, Olympian & Gold Medalist along with Minister Health Khawaja Salman Rafique.

Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz graced the occasion as the Patron in Chief, with Mr. Khalid Mahmood Secretary General Pakistan Olympic Association, as the Guest of Honor. The event was chaired by Prof. Faisal Masood, and Dr. Asad Abbas Shah as the Course Director.

Among the distinguished faculty and guests were Prof. Muhammad Moin, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Muhammad Imran Registrar KEMU, Prof. Abrar Ashraf Chairman Dept. of Surgery and Staff President of Sports KEMU, Prof. Zahra Ishrat Chairperson Dept. of Anesthesia, Dr. Khalid Jameel along with Dr. Mumraiz Naqshband, Dr. Irfan, Dr. Wajahat, Dr. Suhail and Dr. Hashim.

The event also saw the participation of around 450 from King Edward Medical University, Mayo Hospital, Govt. College University, Lahore College University, Ripah University and various other institutions which included Orthopaedic residents, physiotherapists, and students.

Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz, Vice Chancellor KEMU, shared his personal experiences and journey as a member of the hockey team during his college years. He emphasized the importance of both prevention and treatment of sports injuries. He highlighted the potential for professional sportsmen to benefit from the expertise available at KEMU and Mayo Hospital Lahore. He urged healthcare professionals to educate athletes on the necessity of sound mental health for excelling in today’s highly competitive sports environment. He thanked Mr. Arshad Nadeem for the honor of coming to this historic medical university.

Prof. Faisal Masood delivered an insightful talk on the role of Orthopaedics in diagnosing and treating sports injuries and interacted with the participants.

Dr. Mumraiz Naqshband gave a talk and discussed the various Orthopedic procedures for Sports injuries through arthroscopic surgery, the department's services, and the applicability of these techniques in the context of sports.

Dr. Asad Abbas Shah, head of the Dept. of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Mayo Hospital and a renowned Sports Physician, provided an engaging overview of the history and significance of Sports Medicine. He shared his experiences representing the country at various national & international events. He delivered a detailed talk and addressed participants' questions and queries on the topic.

Mr. Arshad Nadeem, the pride of Pakistan, Olympic Gold medalist in javelin shared his experiences on his journey to fame. He shared with the participants the assistance he received from doctors on various occasions during injuries. He gave credit to his parents and teachers for winning the Olympics.

The Chief Guest, Khawaja Salman Rafique Minister Health expressed his gratitude to the organizers and attendees for their respect and recognition for this important event. He praised the KEMU for starting the Sports Medicine Fellowship program and recognized the efforts of Vice Chancellor Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz in this regard. He emphasized the importance of Sports for the youth and vowed to start the same program in other teaching hospitals.

Prof. Faisal Masood extended his heartfelt thanks to the distinguished guests and participants for their valuable time. He gave special mention to the Facilitators Dr. Asad, Dr. Attique, and Course Coordinators Dr. Mazhar Rafique and Dr. Suhail Niazi for their hard work and dedication.

The event concluded with the Chief Guest distributing shields among the participants, followed by a tour of Patiala block, lunch, and group photographs to commemorate the occasion.

On the evening of the highly successful 1st International Pediatric Hip Symposium, he took a moment to personally thank each one of us. The Department of Orthopedic Surgery, King Edward Medical University, Mayo Hospital Lahore, organized a highly engaging and thought-provoking workshop titled "The Learning Theatre: Lessons from Invictus." This interactive session explored profound leadership principles, offering participants valuable insights into the essence of effective leadership.

The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayyaz, Vice Chancellor of King Edward Medical University, as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Dr. Ahsan Nauman, Chief Executive Officer of Mayo Hospital Lahore, as the Guest of Honor.

The session was led by Mr. Muhammad Adnan Azam, a renowned international expert in leadership training. The workshop focused on how resilience, unity, and visionary leadership can transform challenges into opportunities for success.
