World Sight Day Celebrations – 09th October 2025
Held at Kadawatha Lions Golden Jubilee Eye Hospital

The World Sight Day celebrations were held on 09th October 2025 at the Kadawatha Lions Golden Jubilee Eye Hospital. The event was organized by the Lions Club of Jawatte Summit of Lions International District 306 D7.

A generous donation of 150 intraocular lenses was made to the hospital by Lion Mallerville Anton and her spouse. This valuable contribution will significantly support cataract surgeries for patients in need.

At the same venue, an impactful awareness program was conducted for 100 patients. A resource person led the session, providing insightful information on Glaucoma, Retinopathy, and Cataract Surgery, helping to raise awareness on the prevention and treatment of these common eye conditions.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the District Governor of District 306 D7, Lion Gaya Upasena, Lion Mallerville Anton, and the Secretary and Treasurer of the Jawatte Summit Lions Club. Immediate Past District Governor (IPDG) Lion Viraj Wickramasinghe and his spouse, Lion Sumithra Wickramasinghe, participated in the event on behalf of the Hospital Trustees.

Breakfast refreshments were provided to all participants, adding to the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere of the occasion.

This meaningful and successful project exemplified the Lions' ongoing commitment to preventing avoidable blindness and improving eye health in our communities.

Lions Golden Jubilee Eye Hospital - Kadawatha In a heartwarming initiative held today, 25 cataract surgeries were successfully performed at the Lions Golden Jubilee Eye Hospital in Kadawatha, offering the gift of improved vision to less fortunate individuals. This kind project was sponsored by Mr. Anil Deshapriya to celebrate his birthday and his mother’s birthday.

Adding to the significance of the occasion, Immediate Past District Governor Lion Viraj Wickramasinghe PMJF, PMAF and his spouse, Lion Sumithra MJF, graced the event with their presence. Mr. C. Kuruppu, Mr. Anil Deshapriya, along with his mother and his spouse, Mrs. Renu Deshapriya, also attended, showing their wholehearted support for this meaningful cause.

Some of the beneficiaries were residents of elder care homes at Kadawatha YMBA and Kiribathgoda YMBA. The sincere prayers and gratitude expressed by the recipients created a touching and memorable atmosphere, highlighting the real impact of such generosity.

The event was thoughtfully organized by Lion Dhanapala Gamage, whose dedication and leadership ensured its success. Both the donor and the beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation, making it a truly meaningful celebration of compassion and service.

In Loving Memory of Dr. Duminda Saman Kumara.

We mourn the loss of a truly compassionate and noble specialist Eye Surgeon, whose unwavering dedication to healing touched the lives of countless individuals, especially those from rural communities. He treated every patients with kindness, empathy - earning their deep respect and devotion.
To many, he was more than a doctor he was a beacon of hope, a figure of solace, and a healer in the trust sense.

His absence leaves an irreplaceable void in our hearts and in the lives of those he served so selflessly.

May the immeasurable merit of his compassionate service accompany him on his final journey , and may he attain the supreme bliss of Nibbana.
