A significant milestone in enhancing cancer care services has been achieved with the relocation of the Oncology Clinic to the newly established, well-facilitated Sethpiyasa Building – Ground Floor.

This initiative was undertaken with the vision of centralizing all cancer care services under one roof, ensuring greater convenience, accessibility, and comfort for patients and their families. Oncology medical wards, the Oncology Clinic, and the Linear Accelerator Radiotherapy Unit are now functioning within the new Sethpiyasa Building, creating a more integrated and patient-centered healthcare environment.

Our priority remains delivering safe, convenient, comprehensive, and compassionate care to every patient suffering from cancer. This new facility marks another important step forward in strengthening oncology services and improving the overall patient experience.

Together, we continue our commitment towards better cancer care and a healthier future for our community.

Empowering Nurses – Quality Management and Patient Safety

An in-service training program for Nursing Officers on Quality Management, Patient Safety, and Accreditation was successfully conducted at National Hospital Kandy.

The program was conducted over three days, from 14th May 2026 to 16th May 2026. A total of 100 Nursing Officers participated in the program, representing National Hospital Kandy and hospitals under the Regional Directorate of Health Services in the Central Province.

The main objective of this program was to update knowledge, enhance skills, and develop positive attitudes among nurses toward continuous quality improvement while safeguarding standards in patient care and safety.

The program was organized by the Ministry of Health and conducted by the Quality Management Unit in collaboration with the Health Promotion Unit of National Hospital Kandy.

2026 ලෝක තැලසීමියා දින සැමරුම ජාතික රෝහල මහනුවර.
World Thalassemia Day 2026.

මැයි මස අටවන දිනට යෙදී තිබෙන ලෝක තැලසීමියා දිනය සැමරීමේ අරමුණින් මහනුවර ජාතික රෝහලේ සැලසීමියා ඒකකය මගින්, රෝහලේ ළමා වාට්ටු වන වාට්ටු අංක 1හි සහ වාට්ටු අංක 2 හි ප්‍රතිකාර ලබන තැලසීමියා රෝගී දරුවන්ගේ මානසික සුවතාවය වෙනුවෙන් සංවිධානය කරනු ලැබූ වැඩසටහනක් මහනුවර ජාතික රෝහල් පරිශ්‍රයේදී පැවැත්විණ.

මහනුවර ජාතික රෝහලේ නව Digital Subtraction Angiography යන්ත්‍රය ජනතා අයිතියට.
රුධිරවාහිනී සහ සනාල රෝග, පිළිකා ප්‍රමුඛ රෝග රැසකට ප්‍රතිකාර කිරීමට හැකි මෙම යන්ත්‍රය මිලියන 400ක පිරිවැයක් දරමින් රජය විසින් මහනුවර ජාතික රෝහලට ප්‍රධානය කළ අතර, එය මහනුවර ජාතික රෝහල තුළ ස්ථාපනය කර ජනතා අයිතියට පත් කිරීම අද දින සිදු කෙරිණි.
මෙම නවීන යන්ත්‍රය මගින් විකිරණශීලී රූපකරණය (Radiographic imaging) භාවිතා කරමින් රෝග තත්ත්වයන් පවතින ස්ථානයන් ඉතාමත් නිවැරදිව හඳුනාගත හැකි අතර, දේහයේ කුඩා සිදුරක් මඟින් ඇතුළත් කරන කැතීටරයක් (නළයක්) ආධාරයෙන් එම ස්ථානයටම ළඟාවී ප්‍රතිකාර සිදු කිරීම කළ හැක. මෙම ක්‍රමය ඔස්සේ ශල්‍ය කර්ම වැනි දැඩි ආවේශන ප්‍රතිකාර ක්‍රම වලින් ප්‍රතිකාර සිදු කිරීමට සිදුවන පිළිකා වැනි රෝග තත්ත්වවලට පිළිකාව පවතින ස්ථානයට ම ළඟාවී නිරෝගී පටක වලට සිදුවන හානිය අවම කර ගනිමින් ප්‍රතිකාර කළ හැක. එමගින් රෝගියාට සිදුවන සංකූලතාවයන් අවම වේ. මෙම ක්‍රමය පහසු මෙන්ම ලාභදායි ක්‍රමයක් වේ. මහනුවර ජාතික රෝහලේ Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) ඒකකය හරහා දැන් මෙම සේවාවන් ලබා දීම සිදුකෙරේ.

මූත්‍රා ගල් කුඩු කර ඉවත් කිරීම සඳහා නව Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) යන්ත්‍රයක් මහනුවර ජාතික රෝහලට.
මිලියන 200ක පිරිවැයක් දරමින් සෞඛ්‍ය අමාත්‍යාංශය මගින් මහනුවර ජාතික රෝහල වෙත ලබාදුන් Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) යන්ත්‍රය ජනතා අයිතියට පත් කිරීම අද දින සිදු විය.
මූත්‍රා පද්ධතිය ආශ්‍රිතව ඇතිවන අශ්ම (ගල්) ශල්‍යකර්මයක් හෝ වෙනත් ආවේශන ප්‍රතිකාර ක්‍රමයක් සිදු නොකොට අති ධ්වනි තරංග භාවිතා කරමින් කුඩා කැබලි වලට කුඩු කර මූත්‍රා සමඟ පිටවීමට සැලැස්වීම මෙම ප්‍රතිකාර කර්මයේදී සිදු කෙරේ. පෙර පැවැති යන්ත්‍රය අකර්මණ්‍ය වීම හේතුවෙන් තාවකාලිකව ඇණහිට තිබූ ESWL ප්‍රතිකාර ක්‍රමය මෙම නව යන්ත්‍රය මඟින් පෙරට වඩා ගුණාත්මක සහ සුරක්ශිත ලෙස සිදු කිරීමට දැන් මහනුවර ජාතික රෝහල් ‍ජන්‍ය මූත්‍රල ශල්‍ය ඒකකය (NHK Urology Unit) තුළදී හැකියාව ඇත.
තාක්ෂණයෙන් වඩා උසස් මෙම නව යන්ත්‍රය මගින් මූත්‍රා පද්ධතිය තුළ ඇති අශ්ම (ගල්) වෙත නිරවද්‍ය ලෙස අතිධ්වනි තරංග නාභිගත කළ හැකි බැවින් ප්‍රතිකාරය අතරතුර අනෙකුත් පටකවලට සිදුවන හානිය ඉතාමත් අවම වේ. එමගින් ප්‍රතිකාරයට පසුව ඇතිවන සංකූලතා අවම වන අතර ප්‍රතිකාරය සිදුකළ දිනම රෝගියාට රෝහලින් පිටව යාමටද හැකියාව ඇත.
ජන්‍ය මූත්‍රල දිවා ප්‍රතිකාර මධ්‍යස්ථානය ප්‍රතිස්ථාපනය කිරීම (Urology Day Treatment Center) මගින් මෙවැනි ප්‍රතිකාර ඉතා පහසුවෙන් එක් දිනක් තුළදී ලබාගෙන නිවෙස් වෙත යාමේ හැකියාව රෝගීන් හට නුදුරු අනාගතයේදීම හිමි කර දීම මහනුවර ජාතික රෝහල් ජන්‍ය මූත්‍රල ශල්‍ය ඒකකයේ (NHK Urology Unit) බලාපොරොත්තුවයි.

Celebrating Inspiring Patient Journeys – Cochlear Implant & Bonebridge Programme | National Hospital Kandy

A heartwarming and memorable event was held yesterday at the Thilak Abeysekara Auditorium, National Hospital Kandy, organized by the ENT Department of National Hospital Kandy and generously sponsored by MedCon (Pvt) Ltd. The programme aimed to celebrate and admire the inspiring journeys of patients especially children who have undergone Cochlear Implant and Bonebridge surgeries performed under the expert supervision of Consultant ENT Surgeon, Dr. S. B. Etulgama during his service in Teaching Hospital Peradeniya and National Hospital Kandy.

Patients and families from across Sri Lanka, as well as overseas, shared their touching experiences and success stories. Many highlighted the remarkable improvement in hearing, communication, confidence, and overall quality of life following their surgeries. These testimonials reflected the life-changing impact of the Cochlear Implant and Bonebridge surgeries.
The event was further illuminated by a series of aesthetic performances presented by children who had undergone these surgeries. Their singing, dancing, and other talents beautifully showcased their confidence and abilities, creating proud and emotional moments for parents, healthcare staff, and all attendees.

Adding special significance to the occasion, the programme coincided with the birthday of Dr. S. B. Etulgama. Patients, parents, and guests extended their warm wishes. The participants reflected deep gratitude for his tireless efforts in transforming the lives of countless children and adults through advanced hearing restoration surgeries.

The National Hospital Kandy ENT team expresses sincere appreciation to all patients, families, and staff members who contributed to making this meaningful event a great success.
