Sri lanka society of Gastroenterology ( SLSG) successfully conducted a series of clinical programs for both doctors and nurses on 12th & 13th March at Rathnapura with collaboration of Rathnapura clinical society.

13th March morning featured a comprehensive Masterclass on Cirrhosis, bringing together leading experts in Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal surgery.

The sessions covered a wide spectrum of topics including the pathophysiology and progression of cirrhosis, diagnostic approaches to identify its etiology, and evidence-based management of both compensated and decompensated disease. Further discussions highlighted liver transplantation, cirrhosis in special populations, and surgical considerations such as liver resection and post-operative care. The masterclass provided valuable insights and updated knowledge.

Simultaneously, a dedicated program on Gastroenterology Basics for Nurses was conducted, focusing on strengthening practical knowledge and clinical skills among nursing staff.
Both programs were well attended and highly appreciated, reflecting a strong commitment to multidisciplinary education and continuous professional development in Gastroenterology.

Hepatocellular Carcinoma Awareness Program – 7th February 2026
The Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) Awareness Program was held on 7th February 2026 at Jetwing Colombo 7, bringing together medical professionals for an educational symposium focused on improving awareness and management of HCC.
Organized under the auspices of the Sri Lanka Society of Gastroenterology, the program featured expert lectures covering the epidemiology of HCC, surveillance and early detection, diagnosis and staging, and treatment of both early and advanced disease. The faculty included Prof. Madunil Niriella, Dr. Chinthaka Appuhamy, Dr. Uditha Dassanayake, Dr. Suchintha Thillakarathne, and Dr. Nuradh Joseph, representing multiple specialties involved in HCC care.
The symposium concluded with an interactive panel discussion and Q&A session, followed by fellowship and dinner. The program provided a valuable platform for continuing medical education and highlighted the importance of early detection and a multidisciplinary approach in improving outcomes for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.
