This week, I got accepted to Ambassadorship program 2025-2026 . 🥰

It's been 8 years since I started raising awareness about sustainable period wear and selling the here in Sri Lanka.

I didn't think much of it at the time — I just talked about the period cup because I LOVED it. 😍

But when I look back today, 550+ people have bought the period cup through me, and I'd like to think that 550+ people have, for the past x years, had an easier, more comfortable and more sustainable period. 🍃

550 seems such a small number, but I do believe that "change" happens like that. It's the little wins that add up to big wins.

Some incredible people in Sri Lanka I'm honored to work on this project are: 🙌🏽

"Today is an unforgettable day 🥰

We forgot the problems we had in our mind, even for a while, laughed, and bonded with two amazing people."

This is a WhatsApp status updated by one of the students we spoke to during our support circle.

As social workers and youth workers, if we can ease just one person's journey, then our work is done. 🙏🏽

We may not see grand change over night, but if just one person is able to feel the impact of what we do, then we did well. ❤️

"If all women in Sri Lanka took one day's leave, the country would collapse" - Dr Hemantha Perera.

This is how important women's health, especially, menstruation is, not just the country, but our society as well.

What an insightful joint symposium by and on menopause and its impacts on the labor force on July 12th.

Met incredible forces of nature in the period empowerment movement 🩸

Our bodies bloom like the lotus each month 🪷

Here, under the trees, we connected, held space for each other and most of all, learned about our bodies in celebration. 🎉
srilanka inaugurated their monthly women's cycle support circle last Monday at their beautiful space in Hiriketiya. 🌱

Our ammas, akkas and aunties from Hiriketiya shared their stories about periods with us.

We talked about
- how to look after ourselves during our cycle
- period products like the period cup and the reusable pads
- myths and taboos relating to periods
- challenges during period
- how we can involve our loved ones in our conversations

Immense gratitude to;

- Rosie from for doing such incredible collaborative work with your local communities.

- Kelly from .flow.movement for sharing her wisdom about looking after ourselves during our cycle.

- Emma and Dulakshi from .srilanka for creating a beautiful space for your local community to connect, share and learn.

Cycle support circles offer a safe and comfortable place for open dialogue about what matters to us most. Among us, we know what it feels like to bleed every month and live to "hide" the tale.

We know what it's like to "cry like a girl" literally, because the pain is too much, and we also know what it's like to cradle one another when the pain is unbearable. 🫂

Here's to soul-soothing female connections that care, protect and connect with each other.

Last Friday, .toflow held a period workshop for the community in Wellawatta.

They made 2 video clips on period awareness (trilingual) and assessed how effective it is on the target group. These videos will be made into an educational resource (tool kit) for anyone who wants to learn about periods in Sri Lanka.

The videos talks about
- what happens during your first period?
- what is a period?
- how to look after yourself during your period?
- how to manage a period with period products like pads, period cups and tampons
- period related taboos and myths such as "don't bathe during your period"
- encourages young menstruators to not be ashamed or fear their period

The girls were shy at first, but soon warmed up to talk about their periods in a fun and relaxed way. Having their mothers also in the session helped because they encouraged their daughters to talk openly.

What a beautiful engagement! 🥰

We at Happy Bleeding hope that these videos and the tool kit they make help more menstruators:

- understand our bodies better
- talk freely about periods
- let go of the shame, fear and taboos of periods
- embrace the beauty and power of periods
- love our bodies

We spent a beautiful under the trees in a park discussing menstruation 🩸

Last Saturday at the HealthFest 2025, we had an incredible opportunity to brush shoulders with our community. Families, kids, medical students and medical officers along with many other private and public stakeholders in Sri Lanka's healthcare gathered at the Community Health Fest to learn about our health, including menstruation.

Immense gratitude towards the for being a voice at the table. ❤️

Thank you to all the incredible people

I was on my period during a spiritual tour in Anuradhapura. Walking from stupa to temple, sitting under trees, even jumping in the tank for a swim to cool down, this little period cup made my journey so much easier to manage.
I wish this level of freedom and ease to all who bleed.

Thank you to .toflow for all the work you've done on this trilingual video and the toolkit on periods. 🎥

This will hopefully make its way to every menstruator aged 8+ in Sri Lanka and help them understand what's happening in their body during periods.

The video talks about
- shame, fear and taboos
- myths and facts
- period products

During this round table discussion, individuals representing SRHR organisations were asked to give feedback on the video in terms of
- information
- cultural sensitivity
- engagement

This video and tool kit is made to be a guide on menstruation for parents, teachers, s*x educators, private or government organisations to use as necessary at a regional or national level.

Meet Shivani; s*x educator, menstruation mentor and parent coach.

Her "work" started from the time she was born. Growing up in a traditional conservative brown home in Mumbai, India her life as someone with a period, was less than perfect. (Hard relate for many of us!)

She vowed to give her daughter a better life.

"I want to make sure the community she grows up in is s*x and period positive,"

We all had to go through a lot of unlearning to live and love in this female body. It is only now, many years over due, that we're now slowly returning to our bodies, our home and our divinity..

Most of us are only now slowly and steadily embracing what it means to truly be in this body that bleeds, and breaks and gives life, doesn't give life or is unable to give life.

Our bodies are truly a blessing walking on earth. And so many aspects of our lives are governed by our bodies, starting from our sacred moon cycle. Without the proper education, understanding and support, we couldn't and can't possibly continue enjoying our bodies the way wer supposed to.

Pain, pleasure and periods are inherent parts of our life.

I was thrilled to finally connect with Shivani on our passion for everything period. 🩸

Thank you for sharing your story.

Witness her work. Speak to her if you need support in learning about
- S*x and menstruation
- How to talk to your kids about s*x and periods
- How to have a better period cycle

I'm currently in India where my period cup journey started ten years ago when I met of in Kasol through my then boyfriend's tinder swipe. (I adore him for that although he is no longer in my life)

India is magical for many reasons, and for me, this was the first incantation that opened me to look at life through the lense of sustainability and bleeding..🩸

I've been wearing the period cup for almost 8 years now, and it has been a wild, wild journey.

I speak about it everywhere I go, to every woman who's interested to learn more about freedom while bleeding.

1) me holding my period cup
2) a hostel mate in Rishikesh holding her period cup
3) me having bled on my bed in Delhi
4) me displaying my period cup from my balcony in Delhi
5) a picture from Kasol

I wish to talk more about sustainability, periods, dance and movement for women and how important it is for us to move through our body in this profile.

Follow through. 🥰

My first period

I think I was in grade 7 (?) and at school.

It was embarrassing as I'd been scratching my f***y and when I got up to greet the teacher out, my friend seated in front of me exclaimed and pointed at the front of my white school uniform.

Two friends of mine who're already "big girls" rushed me to the loo. Our school bathroom didn't have "lights" and it was dark so I couldn't see much, but I could roughly see my undie was dark red.. I came out, washed my uniform and went back with them.

We were all discussing how crazy it is for a period to be on the FRONT of a dress but classmates who're already "big girls" and were authorities on the subject said "yes it can happen" (only I knew why and I was mercifully going along with this story since I didn't want anyone to know I'd been itching my vag - and now post about it on my IG for the world to know 😂)

I went home, it was a Friday. I didn't tell anyone. I could still figure this out before Monday. I knew roughly that kids don't come to school for a week after they get this and I liked school. Plus how do I now go anyway? Even if I don't tell home, my friends are going to be like "why you here?"

I had kept my undie in a basin to soak cuz and shape eke hidden it in the loo. Eventually, Sunday came, and I was අදි මදි කරනවා (reluctant) to go to school the next day. My dear aunt and guardian (who I loved with) was curious, and I told her "go look in the basin". (She's a teacher at a mixed school!) And lo and behold, everything changed.

She sweetly asked me to go to my room, and I heard her "make some calls" and a few hours later my mom turns up, and it was official.

I was a big girl! 😍

I still remember what my mom said:

"If men bled the way we did, they'd fall faint" 😂

That week was probably one of the most funniest and boring-est weeks of my life.
