LFA Cracks Down on Misconduct: Players, Coaches, and Referee Suspended in Major Disciplinary Action

By: Samuel Felix

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has announced a series of disciplinary measures against several players, team officials, and a referee following investigations into professional conduct violations across the First Division and Women’s Upper Division leagues.

In a media release issued on March 10, 2026, the LFA disclosed that the sanctions were imposed after a comprehensive review of match officials’ reports, video footage, and other inquiries related to incidents that occurred during recent league matches.

According to the football governing body, multiple individuals were found in breach of the association’s regulations and have consequently been suspended from all football related activities for four months. Each of the sanctioned individuals has also been fined LRD 50,000.

Those suspended include several members of Brushrod Queens, namely Felicity Asante, Naileah Boimah, Odell E. Togbah, Fatima B. Gboah, and Gifty H. Gboah. The club’s Medic, Veronic B. Johnson, and Head Coach, Watchin Harmon, were also penalized under the same disciplinary measures.

From Earth Angels, Christina Jappah and Orlet Obey were likewise suspended for similar regulatory violations.

The disciplinary action further extended to players from FC Bea Mountain, where Benjamin K. Doe and Success Wisdom were cited for misconduct.

Additionally, Ahmed Savage and Ibrahim Coulibaly of FC Fassell were handed the same four month suspension and monetary fine.

In a separate decision, referee Sylvester S. Sayon was suspended from all football activities for three months after the LFA determined that he engaged in unprofessional behavior during a third-division league match at Doris Williams Sports Stadium.

The LFA emphasized that the disciplinary measures demonstrate the association’s commitment to maintaining discipline, professionalism, and integrity within Liberian football. Officials noted that strict enforcement of regulations is essential to safeguarding the credibility of the sport and ensuring fair play across all divisions.

The association also called on clubs, players, and match officials to uphold the highest standards of conduct as the league season continues.

By: Samuel Felix

Buchanan, Grand Bassa County – March 9, 2026 — A joint government inspection team has praised the leadership and development efforts of the Grand Bassa County administration following a comprehensive assessment of several ongoing projects aimed at improving public services and infrastructure in the county.

The high-level team, comprising representatives from the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Public Works, and the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), conducted a day long inspection on Monday, March 9, 2026.

The visit formed part of the national government’s ongoing efforts to evaluate development initiatives being implemented by local administrations across Liberia.

During the inspection, the team toured several key projects undertaken by the Grand Bassa County local government under the leadership of Karyou Johnson, Superintendent of Grand Bassa County.

Among the sites visited were the ongoing construction of the Superintendent Compound, the Own Your Own Public School, the Nursing Quarter project intended to support healthcare workers, and the rehabilitation of critical feeder roads within Buchanan, the county’s capital.

Inspectors described the projects as significant steps toward improving governance, education, healthcare, and transportation infrastructure for residents of the county. The team noted that such initiatives reflect a growing commitment by local authorities to address community needs and support national development goals.

According to members of the delegation, the projects are expected to have a meaningful impact on the lives of citizens by enhancing access to quality education, strengthening healthcare delivery, and improving road connectivity for rural and urban communities alike.

The inspection team commended Superintendent Johnson and the Grand Bassa local administration for demonstrating leadership and dedication to development, highlighting the importance of accountability and transparency in the implementation of government funded initiatives.

Officials further disclosed that the observations and findings from the tour will be compiled into a detailed report that will be submitted to the Office of the President to inform decision-making and guide future government support for county-level projects.

The visit is part of a broader nationwide initiative by government institutions to monitor and evaluate development activities in counties, ensuring that projects are progressing as planned and delivering tangible benefits to local communities.

As Liberia continues its push for inclusive growth and decentralized development, such inspections are seen as critical tools in strengthening cooperation between national ministries and county administrations while ensuring that development efforts reach the grassroots level.

Liberia Takes Major Step Toward Modern Roads as Government Signs Landmark Deal to Rebuild Freeport Gabriel Tucker Bridge Corridor

By: Samuel Felix

In a significant move toward improving road infrastructure and easing transportation challenges in Monrovia, the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) has officially signed an agreement for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Freeport to Gabriel Tucker Bridge corridor.

Following a productive week of high level engagements in Tokyo with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Eight Japan Engineering Consultants Inc (EJEC), the Ministry confirmed the signing of a JPY 2.45 billion contract with Dai Nippon Construction for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the 1.9 kilometer dual carriageway urban arterial corridor linking Freeport to the Gabriel Tucker Bridge.

According to the Ministry, the contractor is expected to mobilize in May 2026, with civil works scheduled to begin in July 2026. The project will run for a 26 months implementation period.
The initiative is fully financed through a 100 percent grant from the Government and people of Japan. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and mobility in the area while addressing the long-standing flooding challenges that frequently affect the vital corridor leading to the Gabriel Tucker Bridge.

The Ministry of Public Works also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for strengthening Liberia - Japan diplomatic relations, as well as Liberia’s Ambassador to Japan, Edward Wade Appleton Jr., for sustaining the bilateral partnership between the two countries.

Deputy Minister for Technical Services, Prince D. Tambah, who signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry in Japan, extended special thanks to his boss, Roland Lafette Giddings, Minister of Public Works, for his leadership and commitment to advancing this important infrastructure initiative aimed at transforming Liberia’s road network.

“Voices for the Future: SUP Declares Nationwide March for Jobs and Justice Amid Growing Public Frustration”

By: Samuel Felix

Amid increasing public outcry for job creation and a stronger stance against impunity across Liberia, the newly elected Chairman of the Student Unification Party, Odecious Mulbah, has announced a nationwide “March for Jobs and Justice” scheduled for April 14, 2026.

According to Chairman Mulbah, the planned march is intended to amplify the voices of ordinary Liberians who are demanding greater employment opportunities, accountability, and fairness within the country’s governance system.

The announcement comes at a time when many citizens, particularly young people, are expressing frustration over limited job opportunities and concerns about impunity in public life. Organizers say the march will serve as a peaceful platform for citizens to collectively call for reforms that prioritize jobs, justice, and national development.

SUP leaders are urging students, civil society groups, and concerned citizens across Liberia to join the demonstration as a show of unity and determination for a better future.

“A Visa Is Not the End: U.S. Embassy Warns That Respecting American Laws Remains Essential”

March 6, 2026
The U.S. Embassy has reminded visa holders that the screening process does not end once a visa is issued. According to the embassy, monitoring continues to ensure that individuals traveling to or living in the United States comply with all U.S. laws and immigration regulations.

The embassy emphasized that authorities consistently review the activities of visa holders. Anyone found violating U.S. laws or immigration rules risk serious consequences.

Officials warned that visas can be revoked at any time if holders fail to respect the terms and conditions attached to them. In such cases, individuals may also face deportation from the United States.

The message serves as a caution to travelers and residents alike, urging them to remain law-abiding and mindful of the responsibilities that come with holding a U.S. visa. Respect for the country’s laws, the embassy noted, is essential for maintaining the privilege of entering and staying in the United States.

Boakai Pushes for Progress: Cabinet Ordered to Fast-Track Putu Mining Project for Jobs and Economic Revival

March 5, 2026
Executive Mansion, Monrovia
Joseph Nyuma Boakai has issued a strong Cabinet Directive ordering the swift finalization and operationalization of the Putu Mining Project, a move aimed at accelerating economic recovery, increasing national revenue, and creating employment opportunities for Liberians.

The directive, addressed to the Vice President, ministers, and heads of key government agencies and commissions, follows several updates received by the Office of the President over the past eighteen months indicating that negotiations and arrangements for transferring ownership of the Putu Mining assets were nearing completion.

Despite these assurances, the process has experienced prolonged delays.
President Boakai stressed that the continued delay is no longer acceptable, declaring that the completion of the Putu Mining Project has now become a matter of urgent national priority.

According to the President, the project is expected to revive economic activity and open new opportunities, particularly for communities in southeastern Liberia where hopes for development remain high.

To ensure decisive action, the Presid
ent has tasked Jeremiah Kpan Koung with taking direct leadership of the process and coordinating all relevant government institutions to move the project forward without further delay.

Under the directive, all ministries, agencies, and commissions connected to the project have been instructed to fully cooperate and align their efforts under the Vice President’s leadership.

Key institutions expected to support the process include the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, the National Investment Commission, and the Ministry of Justice, along with other agencies responsible for regulatory and operational oversight.

As part of the immediate actions outlined in the directive, Vice President Koung is required to convene an inter-agency task force within five working days. The task force will develop a clear roadmap and timeline to conclude all outstanding legal, financial, and administrative requirements related to the transfer of the Putu Mining assets from the current sanctioned owners.

Government institutions have also been instructed to quickly identify and address any regulatory, administrative, or procedural bottlenecks that could delay progress. At the same time, relevant agencies are expected to ensure that financing arrangements and technical preparations are aligned toward the prompt commissioning and commencement of mining operations.

To maintain transparency and accountability, Vice President Koung will submit biweekly progress reports to the Office of the President, outlining milestones achieved, challenges encountered, and corrective measures taken.

President Boakai has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring momentum to the Putu Mining Project and ensuring that the initiative delivers meaningful economic benefits to the Liberian people.

All government officials and institutions involved have therefore been urged to treat the assignment with the highest level of urgency, professionalism, and accountability.

Lawmakers Seek Wisdom from Former President Weah in Dialogue on Liberia’s Future

By: Samuel Felix

The House of Representatives of Liberia has agreed to invite former President George Weah to engage lawmakers in a discussion centered on governance and national development.
The motion, introduced by Melvin Cole, received overwhelming support from members of the House, reflecting a shared desire to draw lessons from Liberia’s recent leadership experience.

Lawmakers noted that Weah’s presidency from 2018 to 2023 carried both notable achievements and significant challenges experiences they believe could offer valuable insight for shaping stronger national policies.

Speaking on the initiative, House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon emphasized that engaging former leaders is a meaningful step toward strengthening democratic governance.

He said learning from past decisions can guide the country toward better choices for the future.

Arrangements for the former president’s appearance before the House are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.

Breaking News?

A Ugandan pastor, David Ochieng, became a viral topic after he won a large jackpot from sports betting (about 100 million Ugandan shillings) and then suddenly shut down his church.

Church members reportedly arrived for service only to find the church locked, leaving them shocked and confused.

When contacted, he admitted he was not genuinely called to ministry and had opened the church mainly as a way to earn a living.
After the betting win gave him financial security, he said there was no need to continue preaching and abandoned the church
