Biden and McCarthy agree on the debt ceiling.

Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) have reached a deal to raise the government’s debt ceiling limit ahead just days before the start of June when the US Treasury Department said the government was at risk of defaulting on its obligations.

McCarthy confirmed the news on Twitter, saying that he and Biden had come to an agreement that was “worthy of the American people.”

It has been reported the deal will limit non-defense-related spending to 2023 levels for two years and will increase the debt ceiling for a similar amount of time. The deal will prevent any more debt ceiling standoffs until after the 2024 Presidential election.

In delivered remarks, McCarthy said that there was still a lot of work to be done before the bill is ready to be presented to Congress for a vote. He said he expects the text of the bill to be completed and posted Sunday, with the House voting on it on Wednesday.

Improving the Liberian Military would require a multi-faceted approach that addresses various areas of concern. Here are some possible steps that could be taken:

1. Increase funding: One of the biggest challenges facing the Liberian Military is inadequate funding. Without sufficient resources, it is difficult to provide proper training, equipment, and facilities for the military. Increasing the military budget could help address this issue.

2. Improve training: Effective training is crucial for a well-functioning military. The Liberian Military could benefit from more comprehensive and specialized training programs, particularly in areas such as logistics, intelligence gathering, and strategic planning.

3. Strengthen leadership: Strong leadership is essential for any military organization. This could involve developing a more rigorous promotion system that rewards competence and merit, rather than nepotism or political connections.

4. Address corruption: Corruption is a serious problem in Liberia, and the military is not immune to it. Fighting corruption within the military would help to improve trust and morale among soldiers, as well as ensure that resources are being used effectively.

5. Improve infrastructure: The Liberian Military needs modern facilities and equipment to carry out its duties effectively. Upgrading infrastructure such as barracks, training facilities, and communication systems would help to improve the military's capabilities.

6. Collaborate with other militaries: Liberia could benefit from partnerships with countries' militaries, particularly those with more experience and resources. Joint training exercises and knowledge-sharing could help to improve the Liberian Military's capabilities and build strategic alliances.

Overall, improving the Liberian Military will require a sustained effort over time, and will likely involve a combination of these and other measures.
