Over the past 5 years, Breakthrough ACTION Liberia has been proud of our role in improving maternal health, reducing malaria deaths, and contributing to expanded access and intention to engage in health-promoting behaviors such as family planning use, exclusive breastfeeding, and early care-seeking for fever.

Our efforts have included working with healthcare providers to enhance the quality of client counseling and promote respectful interactions with expectant mothers, adolescents, and community leadership.

Breakthrough ACTION Liberia published several resources that focused on improving the quality of SBC programming for WASH (including promoting menstrual health) and the prevention of priority zoonotic diseases. In addition, the project amplified the Ministry of Health's national umbrella campaign, Healthy Life, by increasing visibility and using new ways to reach the Liberian public.

Over the past 5 years, Breakthrough ACTION Liberia published several resources and tools focused on advocacy. These tools were used to train, coach, and mentor a new generation of community leaders across Liberia who are invested in leading local solutions to address community health challenges. In 2021, Breakthrough ACTION Liberia trained leaders from across 12 counties of Liberia on the SMART Advocacy approach. As of Dec 2024, most of the Health Advocacy Committee are independent civil society organizations.

Breakthrough ACTION Liberia conducted several research studies over the past five years.

We've learned quite a lot about sanitation behaviors in rural areas, water behaviors in urban areas, and even malaria and reproductive health behaviors across Liberia. Overall, our studies have provided a deeper understanding of common health practices among men, women, and adolescents across Liberia.

Use this link to check out the studies AND review our evidenced-based recommendations for improving health in Liberia.
