Adequate sanitation, together with good hygiene and safe water, are fundamental to good health and to social and economic development.Improvement in any of these components can significantly decrease the rates of morbidity and the severity of various diseases and improve the quality of life of the huge vulnerable population in Liberia. According to WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for water, sanitation and hygiene, estimates that 77% of Liberians lack access to safe water, adequate toilet, and proper hygiene; while 6 out of 10 people practice open defecation due to the lack of adequate toilet facilities. 60% of hospital cases in Liberia is water, sanitation and hygiene related. This means that our hospitals are practically full to capacity with people struggling with diseases that are WASH related, which are preventable. My question is,what are the factors responsible for this situation in Liberia? Is water, sanitation and hygiene a top priority in Liberia? Suggest your solutions for the good of our country. The forum is now open for discussion.Your bright views and comments will greatly help shape Liberia's public health sector.
