We are thankful for the partnership and support of Ministry of Health, Republic of Liberia and Samaritan's Purse as we collectively attack child malnutrition through ELWA Hospital’s IMAM program. May God continue to bless them and encourage our staff as they faithfully serve malnourished children and their families!

Commemorating the Tenth Anniversary of the Ebola Outbreak

As anticipation builds, ELWA Hospital is finalizing preparations for our special events to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Ebola outbreak. We dedicate these events to honoring the brave individuals who served in the ELWA Ebola Treatment Units, risking their lives to save others. We also remember those who lost their lives during this crisis and give thanks for those who survived.

Event Schedule for Saturday, December 7:

- 8:00 a.m. - Remembrance march from SKD Stadium to ELWA Hospital
- 10:30 a.m. - Remembrance ceremony at the ELWA Hospital chapel
- 7:00 p.m. - Candlelight service at the Old Hospital Chapel (ELWA1 Ebola Treatment Unit)

We invite survivors and people involved in the 2014-2015 Ebola response to join us in remembering and honoring this important chapter in our history.

🌍 Celebrating Strength and Championing Inclusion: International Day of Persons with Disabilities 🌍

Today, ELWA Hospital honors the resilience, achievements, and contributions of individuals living with disabilities. This year’s theme, “Inclusion and Accessibility,” reminds us that progress happens when every voice is heard and everyone has a seat at the table. Disabilities, whether visible or invisible, challenge us to break barriers, rethink stereotypes, and create a society where everyone can thrive.

At ELWA Hospital, we remain committed to promoting dignity, supporting rights, and fostering opportunities for persons with disabilities in our community. Join us in celebrating this important day and advocating for a world where inclusion truly matters.

Diagnose, manage, and live a long life!

Today is World Diabetes Day.
Diabetes is better managed together:
👉 Ask how you can support the people in your life with diabetes.
👂 Listen to what they need—or do not need—from you.
🚫 Remember, blaming and shaming is not helpful.

We recently hosted our first planning meeting for the upcoming 10-Year Ebola Anniversary program at ELWA Hospital. This will be a time to remember the lives lost, honor those who served and celebrate what God did and continues to do through ELWA Hospital and our partners.

In attendance at the planning meeting were a few amazing people who served selflessly in the ELWA-1 and ELWA-2 Ebola Treatment Units during the 2014-15 outbreak. As such, all were TIME Magazine People of the Year, whether pictured in the magazine or not.

The program date is set for Saturday, December 7, with Liberian and International dignitaries and Ebola fighters being invited. Please pray with us as we make preparations and organize volunteers. If you would like to contribute to help cover some costs of this event please reach out to hospital.communications@elwaministries.org .

Please read the notice from National Public Health Institute of Liberia-NPHIL regarding the latest cases of Mpox.

Key facts :

-Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a viral illness caused by the monkeypox virus, a species of the genus Orthopoxvirus. There are two distinct clades of the virus: clade I (with subclades Ia and Ib) and clade II (with subclades IIa and IIb). In 2022–2023 a global outbreak of mpox was caused by the clade IIb strain.
-Mpox continues to be a threat today, and an upsurge of cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other countries caused by clades Ia and Ib has raised concern.
-There are vaccines for mpox. Vaccination should be considered along with other public health interventions.
-Common symptoms of mpox are a skin rash or mucosal lesions which can last 2–4 weeks accompanied by fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy and swollen lymph nodes.
-Mpox can be transmitted through close contact with someone who has mpox, with contaminated materials, or with infected animals. During pregnancy, the virus may be passed to the fetus, or to the newborn during or after birth.
-Mpox is treated with supportive care for symptoms such as pain and fever, with close attention to nutrition, hydration, skin care, prevention of secondary infections and treatment of co-infections, including HIV where present.
