We are grateful for the collective commitment shown during our Coalition Building Workshop on the Prevention of Substance Use and Promotion of Mental Health.

Bringing together diverse stakeholders reminded us that real change happens through collaboration, shared vision, and action.

This is just the beginning of building a united and sustainable movement for healthier communities in Lesotho.

We're proud to share that the stakeholders ' workshop on coalition building for the Prevention of Substance use and Promotion of Mental Health Awareness, as well as the development of a road map for schools, held on 19th March 2026 at Victory Hall in Maseru, was a great success.

The workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders from Government schools, civil society, the private sector, and community leadership to engage in a meaningful dialogue on the growing challenges of substance use and mental health challenges among young people in Lesotho. Participants shared valuable insights and worked collaboratively towards a more coordinated and effective national response.

We are encouraged that several participants formerly joined the emerging Lesotho Coalition for Prevention of Substance Use and Mental Health Promotion during the workshop. Others expressed strong interest and have committed to joining after consulting with their respective constituencies.

This marks an important step towards building a united, inclusive and sustainable coalition dedicated to promoting healthier, safer and more resilient communities. We sincerely thank all participants for their active engagements and the Monaco Department of International Cooperation for their support. We look forward to continued collaboration with all stakeholders.

We allign ourselves with WHO's SAFER Initative to bring an Empowered Community and a Healthy Nation to Basotho.

Every 10 seconds a person dies from alcohol-related causes. WHO, in collaboration with international partners, launched the SAFER initiative in 2018.

SAFER is a World Health Organization initiative and technical package that can help governments reduce the harmful use of alcohol and related health, social and economic consequences.

"SAFER" is an acronym for the 5 most cost effective interventions to reduce alcohol related harm.
