Pregnant Ladies encounter so many complications in the early stages of pregnancy so it is vital for a pregnant woman to start antenatal clinic as soon as she misses her period in order to detect the complications at an early stage and to prevent them. Pleural effusion VS collapsed lung

Pleural effusion - Ke le ts'oafo le tletse metsi whereas Collapsed Lung - its an injury to the lung caused by gunshot or knife, rib fracture sending air into the space around the lung. When the lung collapses only one lung will be functioning and cause it to suffer. They both have similar symptoms like chest pain, difficulty in breathing/ fast breathing.

Where does the fluid comes from
• the blood vessels of the parietal pleura ( the lining of the chest wall and leaks into the pleural space

What are the causes of Pleural effusion
° Congestive heart failure ( Lefu la pelo) - whereby the hearts ability to pump blood effectively leads to fluid backup and increased pressure in lung vessels
° Ho noa joala ho feta tekano bo ama sebete( Liver Cirrhosis)- liver' s reduced ability to produce proteins, particularly albumin can lower blood protein levels and increase the pressure that pushes fluid into the Pleural space
° Kidney disease
° Infections like TB and Pneumonia can cause excess fluid production in the Pleural Space

° Trauma and injury that damage the pleura lead the fluid to build up

Chest Xray will diagnose both Pleural effusion and Collapsed lung

Can one recovery from both Pleural effusion and collapsed lung?
▪︎Yes in condition like Collapsed lung re- inflation of the lung by removing air between the lung and chest wall. Pleural effusion -removal of the accumulated fluid is done also treat underlying conditions which leads fluid to the Pleural space. Alcohol should be avoided at all cost if not possible reduce the intake of alcohol.
