IMAL HONOURS OUR PRESIDENT – DUBAI 2025

Meet Mrs. Nelly Mamlambokazi Fobo, a Nurse-Midwife, Advanced Midwife, Educator, and Administrator, whose lifelong service has shaped midwifery in Lesotho for over four decades. Though now retired from formal posts, she remains the active and visionary President of IMAL, ensuring the association runs smoothly and midwives’ voices remain strong nationally and globally.

She has a dream that one day IMAL will breed a very advanced Midwifery School ''IMAL College of Midwifery Excellence (ICME)'', and what if we turn it to ''Lesotho Midwifery and Maternal Health Institute (LMMHI)''. Ok, the outcome MUST be midwives at heart.

Mrs. Fobo has co-authored many of the abstracts to be presented in Dubai 2025, standing as the unseen strength behind the 11 Lesotho midwives who will take the stage. A mentor and motivator, she continues to inspire generations through her leadership, commitment to quality improvement, and dedication to SRMNCAH and education.

She may not stand at the podium this year, but every presentation carries her guidance and touch. Her legacy reminds us that leadership is not about position, but about vision, service, and impact.

An advanced midwife at heart, a passionate midwife-researcher, always pushing beyond boundaries no matter what. Today, she stands proud - because of her tireless drive, 11 midwives will be joining global conversations in Dubai.

IMAL PROUDLY PRESENTS – DUBAI 2025

Meet Ms. T**i Nelly Nthabane - advanced midwifery educator, researcher, and leader with over 27 years of experience in advancing nursing and midwifery in Lesotho and beyond. She is a Lecturer at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) and serves as Treasurer of Independent Midwives Association Lesotho.

She is the Founder of the IMAL Research Club, nurturing a culture of evidence-based practice among midwives, and has served nationally and regionally on multiple SRMNCAH, education, and quality improvement committees.

At the 1st UAE International Midwifery Conference (2024), she proudly won the Best Poster Presentation Award (a research with impact). Now, she returns to Dubai with even greater strength, presenting alongside one of our SRH Mentor (Oral) and Mrs. Mantuta Thelingoane (Poster) at the 2nd UAEIMC 2025.

A true team leader, mentor, and catalyst for change, Ms. Nthabane embodies the resilience, scholarship, and leadership of Lesotho’s midwifery community.

Meet Mr. Sehloho Ntlhane, a visionary Nurse-Midwife Executive and Secretary of IMAL, whose leadership has been instrumental in reviving and strengthening most local organisations, institutions, communities, and currently, IMAL’s voice, nationally and globally. With a proven record of influencing health policies, challenging the status quo, and championing the welfare of nurses and midwives, he embodies the spirit of transformative leadership.

Mr. Ntlhane has managed landmark initiatives of IMAL, such as the BRIDGE Project funded by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and founded the IMAL Research Club, nurturing a vibrant community of midwives advancing evidence-based practice and innovation.

With over a decade of leadership in SRHR, HIV, GBV, Mental Health, and Maternal & Child Health programming, he has consistently driven projects that place dignity, equity, and quality of care at the centre. His efforts also champion the integration of men into MNCH services, ensuring holistic, inclusive, and sustainable healthcare models.

At the 2nd UAE International Midwifery Conference 2025, he will proudly represent Lesotho with two Seminal abstracts:

Poster: “Beyond the Mountains: A Midwife’s Journey to Restore Dignity and Mental Health among Pregnant Adolescent Girls in Isolated Regions of Mohale’s Hoek, Lesotho.”
Oral: “Enhancing SRMNCAH Care through Community-Based Midwifery Initiatives in Rural Areas of Lesotho.”

A leader at heart, Mr. Ntlhane is celebrated for blending innovation, advocacy, and compassion - ensuring that the voices of midwives are heard and the rights of communities are protected.

IMAL PROUDLY PRESENTS – DUBAI 2025

Meet Ms. Likonelo Manyala, a vibrant Nurse-Midwife with over 15 years of maternal and newborn care experience. She began her journey at CHAL: LOUIS Gerald Health Centre LERIBE in 2007, later rising to become Unit Manager at QMMH’s maternity department.

Shhhh…! GOOD NEWS! Starting last month, she was promoted to Manager Hospital Nursing Services at QMMH, all while juggling her fellowship with the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Nursing and Midwifery (ECSACONM) where she’s pursuing her Master’s in Nursing Leadership and Management.
Bravooooo!!!

At the 2nd UAE International Midwifery Conference 2025, she will present her transformative work on “Capacity building to reduce perinatal mortality at QMMH.”

Her leadership in quality improvement and staff empowerment has already brought measurable impact. WOW, WOW, WOW!

Indeed, From a midwife to a manager, leader, and scholar, nurses in managerial positions, make us proud at IMAL.

We congratulate her on this milestone and look forward to her flying the Lesotho flag high in Dubai, celebrating nurse-leaders in action.

Meet Mrs. Mantuta Cicelia Thelingoane, an accomplished Advanced Midwife and Nursing Officer at Nazareth Health Centre, Lesotho, with over 17 years of experience and more than a decade in leadership. She holds advanced qualifications in Midwifery and Neonatology, Healthcare Management, Primary Health Care, and Pediatric Nutrition, and has dedicated her career to strengthening maternal and neonatal health services. She also serves nationally and regionally as a member of the National Maternal Assessor Team, IMAL, and the ECSACONM Fellowship Program.

At the 2nd UAE International Midwifery Conference 2025, Mrs. Thelingoane will present her poster on: “Community-led incentive strategy to improve antenatal care attendance and outcomes.”

A leader, mentor, and innovator in maternal health. IMAL is proud to celebrate her as she represents Lesotho’s midwifery voice on the global stage!

Meet Mrs. Malesala Mafura, a passionate nurse-midwife from Mafeteng Regional Hospital with over 22 years of experience in HIV care and women’s health. She holds a BA in Nursing Science from University of South Africa and advanced oncology training from New Delhi, India.

At the 2nd UAE International Midwifery Conference 2025, she will present her state-of-the-art work on “Integrating cervical cancer screening into HIV care: A sustainable model for women’s health.” This model, pioneered at Mafeteng Regional Hospital, has increased screening uptake among women living with HIV, ensured treatment access, and reduced stigma.

She is our aspiring Nurse Oncologist, passionate about empowering women through integrated and sustainable healthcare.

Meet Mr. Vuyani Dlakavu, a passionate Quality Improvement Officer at Paray Mission Hospital, Thaba-Tseka. Vuyo holds Bachelor of Nursing from UNISA, Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health, and a mile away from completing Honours Degree in HIV/AIDS. With over eight years of experience in community, primary health care and hospital settings, he is committed to ensuring that even the most remote populations receive safe, high-quality services.

Since 2023, he has led Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement (QAQI) initiatives at Paray Mission Hospital, transforming maternal and child health outcomes through audits, mentorship, data-driven reviews, and stronger emergency preparedness.

At the 2nd UAE International Midwifery Conference 2025, Mr. Dlakavu will present on: “Advancing Maternal and Child Health in Rural Settings: A Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement Approach at Paray Mission Hospital.”

“Let quality do the things, yessss!” as - Paray’s MH story in the highlands shows, structured QAQI can deliver big results even in the toughest environments.

Meet Mr. Motebang Isaac Molainyane, an experienced Nurse Educator at Maluti Adventist College. With a career running over two decades, Duo Masters Holder. He earned a Master of Public Health (2022) and holds MSc in Nursing (2025) at Loma Linda University. He also serves as an Executive Member of IMAL, where he contributes to advancing midwifery education and professional development in Lesotho. A founder of IMAL Research Club. A brain behind growth of IMAL. A midwife at heart and brain. Salutations are in order ntate.

At the 2nd UAE International Midwifery Conference 2025, Mr. Molainyane will present his work on: “Integrating International Confederation of Midwives’ Educator Competencies: Lessons from Maluti Adventist College’s Involvement in the Upscaling Midwifery Education Project.”

His research demonstrates how applying ICM educator competencies has strengthened faculty skills, improved teaching quality, and positioned Maluti Adventist College as a potential centre of excellence for midwifery education in Lesotho. Hmmmm!

IMAL PROUDLY PRESENTS – DUBAI 2025

Meet Mrs. Liopelo Patricia Mohatlane, an experienced Nurse-Midwife with over 12 years of diverse clinical experience in maternal health, ART, TB care, non-communicable diseases, and community outreach. She currently serves as a Hospital Non-Communicable Disease Officer at Maseru District Hospital.

Mrs. Liopelo is also an aspiring Mental Health Nurse Specialist, now completing her Master’s in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing at the National University of Lesotho. Her research and advocacy focus on integrating mental health into primary health care, a much-needed response to challenges faced by mothers and families in rural Lesotho.

At the 2nd UAE International Midwifery Conference 2025, Mrs. Mohatlane will present on: “Assessment of the mental wellbeing of nursing mothers during the first 24 months post-normal vaginal delivery at remote Health Centres in Mohale’s Hoek.”

A true pioneer in bringing mental health to the centre of midwifery practice, IMAL celebrates her vision and dedication as she takes Lesotho’s voice to the global stage.

IMAL PROUDLY PRESENTS – DUBAI 2025

Meet Mr. Victor Morabe Mosate, a dedicated nurse-midwife, ophthalmic nurse, and Public Health specialist, now serving at Ntsekhe Hospital, Mohale’s Hoek.

With a decade of experience, he has contributed to maternal and child health, ocular care, reproductive health, and quality improvement mentorship.

At the 2nd UAE International Midwifery Conference 2025, he will present on: “Midwife-led cervical cancer screening in OPD Settings: Uncovering broader reproductive health needs at Nts'ekhe Hospital.”

His findings reveal that some women who screened for cervical cancer had abnormal results, with midwives uncovering not only cervical lesions but also untreated STIs and UTIs. This work shows the critical role of midwives in broadening preventive reproductive health services beyond maternity units.

Meet Mr. Kali Edwin Moholisa, a Critical care nurse specialist and a midwife from Seboche Mission Hospital. His advanced skills in managing high-risk maternal emergencies perfectly reflect the 2025 International Day of the Midwife (IDM) theme: “Midwives: Critical in Every Crisis.”

A triple cm laude graduate and award-winning nurse-midwife, Mr. Moholisa is celebrated for his clinical excellence and dedication to strengthening maternal emergency response in rural areas of Lesotho. To Sister Callextina Maepa and Sister Lebina, You've groomed a star here, let him shine on global stage.

At the 2nd UAE International Midwifery Conference 2025 in Dubai, he will present on: “Empowering midwives for obstetric crisis response: A rural emergency preparedness model from Seboche Mission Hospital.”
