Cross-border safety in action! 🚨

On October 1, 2025, Biała Piska and Pisz County representatives took part in the exercises organised by the project “Ready Together: Crisis Management in Border Municipalities”.

Exercises included handling an armed intruder and a chemical spill, involving police, firefighters, and medical teams. The event strengthened cross-border cooperation and improved crisis response in Poland and Lithuania.

Współpraca transgraniczna na rzecz bezpieczeństwa – ćwiczenia w ramach projektu Interreg LT-PL

W dniu 1 października 2025 r. przedstawiciele Gminy Biała Piska oraz Starostwa Powiatowego w Piszu wzięli udział w spotkaniu organizowanym w ramach programu Interreg IV-A Litwa–Polska 2021–2027, realizowanego w projekcie pn. "Razem gotowi: zarządzanie kryzysowe w gminach przygranicznych" (LTPL00495).

W ramach wydarzenia odbyły się praktyczne ćwiczenia z zakresu zarządzania kryzysowego, które miały na celu doskonalenie współpracy służb oraz skuteczności reagowania na sytuacje zagrożenia. Pierwszy scenariusz zakładał obezwładnienie uzbrojonej osoby, która wtargnęła na teren fabryki – w działania zaangażowane były służby policyjne oraz zespoły ratownictwa medycznego. Drugie ćwiczenie dotyczyło neutralizacji wycieku substancji chemicznych – w tym przypadku kluczową rolę odegrali strażacy.

Spotkanie było doskonałą okazją do wymiany doświadczeń i zacieśnienia współpracy między jednostkami samorządowymi i służbami ratunkowymi z regionów przygranicznych Polski i Litwy. Wszystko po to, by jeszcze skuteczniej reagować na sytuacje kryzysowe i dbać o bezpieczeństwo mieszkańców.

At the foothills of Kaukai and Obelytė mounds, participants showcased Baltic — especially Jotvingian — traditions, crafts, cuisine, and way of life. 🌿

🍂 At the end of September, a group of residents from Trakai District took part in the “Connecting Generations” workshops held in Giżycko, Poland. The event featured creative and educational activities aimed at fostering self-expression and bringing together different generations. 🤝

👱‍♀️👩‍🦳🧔‍♂️ The event, organized within the project “Actively Connecting Generations in the Trakai and Giżycko Regions – Intergenerational Integration through Joint Sports and Cultural Activities”, brought together 40 participants from both sides of the border.

🌍 Reconnecting across borders — from the Yotvingians tribe to a modern Polish–Lithuanian partnership 🇵🇱🇱🇹

Centuries ago, the Yotvingians connected people living between what is now Lithuania and Poland. Today, that same spirit of togetherness lives on through the newly created European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) “Poland–Lithuanian Cross-Border Functional Area.”

Born from local initiative and strengthened by European cooperation, this EGTC gives communities on both sides of the border a new, formal way to build their shared future — from joint development strategies to cross-border projects supported by the Interreg Lithuania–Poland Programme.

It’s a modern continuation of a centuries-old story of connection, collaboration, and common heritage — now recognised at the EU level. 💪✨
