Often, migrants invest themselves in professional training and are unable to easily find a job later on in their field because it is very competitive, priority being to EU citizens. We will construct training modules around five major competences:
Language
Scientific and digital
Intercultural
Social and civic
Socio-professional

Complementary approaches must be integrated in their educational or training life in order to facilitate the achievement of their life plans in the host society. Mentoring methodology fills the gap left by conventional training approaches because it brings openness, trust, reliability, sense of responsibility and usefulness, rapid mastery of concepts and techniques related to a profession, and hope to the mentees.

Mentors: guidance and support

The vulnerable nature of migrants, particularly refugees, means that complementary approaches must be taken into account in their integration into society and, subsequently, the labour market to enable them to live with dignity and fulfil their potential in Europe.
In the European project Mufocom, the methodology of guidance and support through mentors fills the gap left by conventional educational approaches. The human relationship of trust between mentors and mentees leads to improved mental health, hope and self-confidence among migrants and refugees while also offering assistance in the rapid assimilation of technical and professional skills necessary for their future.

Mufocom: A project for social integration that is almost completed

๐ŸŸจThe completion of the Mufocom European project is approaching. 7 partners from 5 countries (Italy, France, Greece, Portugal, and Luxembourg worked for the effective social integration of migrants and refugees in European societies.

๐ŸŸจA crucial aspect of Mufocom was the improvement of the skills of trainers and professionals working with migrants and refugees, giving them the necessary tools to educate migrant adults across Europe. Thus, scientific experience and cross-cultural empathy were multiplied, with beneficial results for our most vulnerable fellow human beings.

๐ŸŸขThe Mufocom project aims to smoothly and efficiently integrate migrants and refugees into European society and economy.

๐ŸŸขAmong other methods, this is done by promoting e-learning tools, including those previously developed in other Erasmus+ projects. In addition, highlighting particular examples through storytelling and recording successful case studies is used as a learning tool to encourage and motivate migrants and refugees to discover their skills and competencies.

The Mufocom Project, which started in 2021, will end next August. After the last meeting of the partners in Amadora in Portugal last May, the latest contents and outputs foreseen by the project are now being defined.
Specifically, the partners are finalizing the implementation of the mentoring process with the migrants, each in their own country. They are working to collect, through interviews with the migrants involved in the project, successful stories and experiences.
An example is the testimonies of Nasir, Ali and Haider, who arrived in Italy years ago and were the protagonists of two stories of positive migration. Their migratory journey and integration saw the birth of two commercial activities in Italy (a jewellery shop and a kebab shop), transforming them from migrants to entrepreneurs. Two stories, therefore, can be taken as a model and inspiration by other migrants and which, together with the stories of all the project partners, will become a final booklet.

The United Nations General Assembly has chosen to celebrate World Refugee Day on 20 June each year. This was decided on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.
is an opportunity to remember how we can all lend a hand to those forced to flee war and persecution to create a world where all refugees are included. It takes very little to make a difference in the lives of asylum seekers, migrants and refugees; we can.
With Mufocom project, we aim to help adult refugees and migrants in their social inclusion by promoting tools and approaches for developing language skills through the mentoring process.

The end of the Mufocom project is approaching. On 25 and 26 May, the partners met in Amadora, Portugal, for the last transnational project meeting to define the next project phases and activities and discuss the content of the outputs.

The project on which partners from Italy (Associazione di volontariato onlus "San Giuseppe"), Luxembourg (Office House Capellen and Social Impact Development Centre-ASBL), Portugal (Aproximar and Amadora Inova), France (European Center for Human Rights and Greece (Athens Lifelong Learning Institute) are working has among its objectives.-Diversify and innovate through the construction of innovative training modules adapted to the needs of migrants, contributing to the improvement of their linguistic, scientific and digital, intercultural and environmental, social and civic, and socio-professional skills, to improve their personal development, their active participation in society and their employability in the European labour market;
-Preserving generational competencies through non-formal education, which is essential for adult learners because their learning outside the classroom must be complementary to what they have learned in the formal context;
-Encourage learners through the promotion of existing e-learning tools and storytelling to encourage and motivate migrants to discover their own potential and capabilities.
-Improving the skills of educators and practitioners working with migrants by providing them with the necessary tools for adult migrant education across Europe.

โ€œCuring the Limboโ€ is a program implemented by the City of Athens, the Development and Destination Management Agency (ADDMA), the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) that aims at implementing a dynamic and innovative model for the integration of refugees in Greece. The program achieves the aforementioned goal by providing refugees with language courses and ICT, access to affordable housing, and professional counselling services tailored to their needs. As a result, refugees are being integrated into the city's life by interacting with active citizen groups and participating in public events held in the neighbourhoods of Athens. In coming together, the refugees and the city exit their โ€œlimboโ€ state, boosting activity, cooperation, and co-existence.

Language learning activities by the Athens Lifelong Learning Institute
The Athens Lifelong Learning Institute has implemented a variety of non-formal language learning activities for migrants/refugees. The ALLI team regularly works with a group of refugee women from Ukraine, aiming at social integration and inclusion. The activities were based on a more practical approach in order to give participants a chance to cooperate, express themselves and learn while having fun. Lessons were a chance not only to develop language skills but also to develop social skills and bonding.

Integration of migrants into the political system of Luxembourg
Lusophone communities from third countries, such as Cape Verde, Brazil, Angola, and Mozambique, will have info in their languages (Portuguese and Creole). In addition to these communities, Arabic sessions will be held about the elections in 2023. With the aim of greater integration of these communities within the heart of economic and political life in Luxembourg, the sessions aim at their greater effective participation.
The linguistic system in Luxembourg is complex: Luxembourgish is the national language; French, German and Luxembourgish are administrative languages; English is accepted as a communication language, and French is used in drafting laws, employment contracts, leases, provision of services, for official information. Luxembourgish is also used in most parliamentary debates.
Luxembourg is one of the European countries that concentrate several foreign residents in proportion to national residents. At the moment, the capital registers 186 different nationalities. In the city of Luxembourg, 120,090 inhabitants, 39,302 from Luxembourg and 80,788 foreigners, and the government calls for the participation of resident foreigners in the next municipal elections, for social cohesion, and to favour the integration and participation of all in the political and social life of the country. For this reason, access to information is provided in several languages to facilitate integration.

Luxembourg partners Social Impact Development Centre-ASBL and Office House Capellen has completed the pilot "Formal and non-formal education: multiple approaches for fostering the linguistics skills in adult migrants" in collaboration with Kopplabundz Asbl. The pilot involved twelve women from Syria, Morocco, Nigeria, Somalia and Iran with A1 and A2 levels of French. The women's profile was: unemployed, aesthetician, sewer, and elderly assistant. The pilot lasted from January to February 2023 with 2 supervised online sessions and three traditional learning methods and the aim was to improve the participants' speaking ability, both in writing and speaking.
What emerged from the pilot was the importance of using hybrid teaching methods for adult language learning to contribute to the learners' autonomy and flexibility in content delivery. It is crucial to adapt content to the profile of the participants we meet in the classes, working more on their interests.

Did you arrive in Portugal recently and you don't speak Portuguese? Or would you like to improve your Portuguese languageโ€“ listening, speaking and writing?
You can do it โ€“ for free and in a personalized way โ€“ on the digital platform Plataforma de Portuguรชs Online!

The Online Portuguese Platform is a formal resource promoted by Alto Comissariado para as Migraรงรตes (ACM) โ€“ the public institute acting in public politics about migrations in Portugal.

This platform is a set of tools allowing the trainees to practice the language. After registration and a needs assessment, the learner receives the result indicating the module where they should start the language learning process.
The course is very dynamic, with pictures and cultural expressions in line with the main objective of language learning: to acquire competencies to speak and understand the language; while developing other more general skills connected with the socio-cultural knowledge of the context of the language and the promotion of an intercultural awareness amongst the learners.

"The more you hear about, read and write Portuguese, the faster you learn to use the Portuguese. There's no problem making mistakes or taking longer to say something. The important thing is to want to communicate and learn to do it better and better" (A message from the platform).

The partner ECHR from France, together with the project partners, is developing the Guidelines for educators/trainers and/or training providers on how to implement non-formal learning activities in the language provision to migrants/refugees. In these guidelines for educators and trainers who teach the host country language to migrants/refugees, it provides an overview of migrants' motivation to learn the language, their characteristics as learners and
contextualises non-formal education. In addition, it is a small handbook with non-ormal
activities for language teaching. All activities have a guidebook that will enable their implementation in a way that is effective and easy for everyone.

The International Film Festival on Migration will take place in Lisbon, at Cinema Sรฃo Jorge, on the 6th January. 7th edition.
The International Migration Film Festival presents films and documentaries that capture the promise and challenges of migration and the unique contributions that migrant people bring to their new communities. The aim of the festival is to pave the way for greater discussion around one of the greatest phenomena of our time. We are very happy to announce the film of the 7th edition of the International Film Festival on Migration: Flee, by Jonas Poher Rasmussen. Told mainly through animation, Amin talks about his past for the first time as a child refugee from Afghanistan and his journey. He looks back at his past and addresses his struggle with a painful secret he has kept hidden for 20 years, which
threatens to make the life he has built for himself and his future husband impossible.
Admission is free, however we ask that people register via this link. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bilhetes-festival-internacional-de-cinema-sobre-a-migracao-486818576467
