This weekend, the ESSKA-ESA Consensus Project brought together the Steering and Rating Groups in Athens - with some participants joining virtually - for a highly productive combined meeting! 🇬🇷💻

This session marks an important step forward as we move closer to finalising the rating phase, and we’re excited to share the final results at the ESSKA Congress in Prague in May 2026. 🇨🇿

Harvesting the Re**us Femoris for ACL Reconstruction - A Step-by-Step Approach

This educational demonstration details a step-by-step technique for harvesting the re**us femoris tendon as an autograft for ACL reconstruction.
The approach is anatomical, reproducible, and minimally invasive, designed to optimise graft quality while preserving quadriceps function and reducing donor-site morbidity.

Prof. Cavaignac’s work highlights the increasing role of the re**us femoris tendon as a strong and reliable graft alternative for complex or revision ACL cases.
Through precise identification of the superficial and deep tendon layers, and careful dissection along safe anatomical planes, this method provides both efficiency and predictability, key values in modern sports knee surgery.

What an incredible weekend! 🙌 Our residents absolutely loved the ESSKA Simulator Training Course, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

We had 22 participants from 10 different nationalities, all making the most of the simulators right up until the last minute!

ESSKA-AFAS Consensus Meeting | 10–11 October 2025

Over the weekend, the Steering and Rating Groups of the ESSKA-AFAS Consensus on Acute and Chronic Achilles Tendon Rupture Management met in a hybrid format. The setup allowed for strong participation both onsite and online.
The meeting marked the completion of a major phase of the project. Discussions were well-organized and productive, with constructive input from all members.
Thanks to the commitment of the chairs and the support of the ESSKA Office, this important step was delivered smoothly.

The Women in ESSKA Mentorship Programme is designed to connect young female orthopaedic surgeons and sports medicine professionals with experienced mentors in the field for inspiration, guidance and support.

With Round one of the mentorships complete, we have received wonderful feedback from our mentees.
