As sandplay therapists, we believe in the multidimensional aspects of a symbol. One symbol that is a great example is The Statue of Liberty. The architect of the statue, Frédéric Auguste, used a variety of symbols to create a complex vision for this piece of art. For example, the torch being raised was said to represent guiding light and provide direction, while the crown was said to represent rays of sunlight or a halo to help shine forth freedom around the world. On the statue's feet there are broken chains which the architect envisioned to represent freedom from oppression. Finally, this symbol comes together in the form of a goddess with prominently powerful feminine energy. So keep an eye on this figure and see what known and hidden aspects are speaking to you at this time of year, as we wish everyone a happy 4th of July!
