🧪 Total Acid Phosphatase (ACP) Test

Purpose:
The Acid Phosphatase test measures the total activity of acid phosphatase in the blood. While several tissues produce acid phosphatase (including the liver, spleen, red blood cells, and bone marrow), prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP) is particularly relevant in diagnosing and monitoring prostate cancer and certain bone diseases.

🔬 Clinical Applications:

Prostate Cancer Monitoring: Elevated levels can indicate prostatic carcinoma (especially metastatic).

Bone Disorders: Useful in assessing conditions like Paget’s disease, osteolytic bone metastasis, and Gaucher's disease.

Hematologic Conditions: Occasionally used in multiple myeloma and leukemias.

Forensic Use: Detection of semen (acid phosphatase is present in high levels in seminal fluid).

Sample: Serum (fresh, non-hemolyzed preferred)

🔬 What is the Metanephrine (24-Hour Urine) Test?

The 24-hour urine metanephrine test measures the amount of Total metanephrines (metanephrine and normetanephrine) in urine. These substances are breakdown products of catecholamines (adrenaline and noradrenaline), which are hormones produced by the adrenal glands.

🧪 Clinical Purpose:

This test is primarily used to help diagnose or rule out pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma — rare tumors of the adrenal glands or nervous tissue that can cause excessive production of catecholamines.

📋 When is it Ordered?

When a patient presents with unexplained high blood pressure, especially if severe or episodic

Symptoms such as:

Headaches

Sweating

Rapid heartbeat (palpitations)

Anxiety or panic-like attacks

🕒 How is it Collected?

Urine is collected over a 24-hour period in a special container.

The sample must be kept refrigerated or on ice during the collection.

🧪 ما هو تحليل Serotonin؟

تحليل Serotonin هو فحص يُستخدم لقياس مستوى السيروتونين (5‑هيدروكسي تريبتامين) في الجسم، ويُجرى غالبًا باستخدام عينة بول مُجمّعة خلال 24 ساعة.
السيروتونين يُعرف شعبيًا بـ"هرمون السعادة" بسبب دوره في تحسين المزاج والشعور بالراحة النفسية، لكن تحليل مستواه في المختبر لا يُستخدم لتشخيص الاكتئاب أو الحالات النفسية، بل يُستخدم لتقييم بعض الحالات المرضية المحددة، مثل أورام الكارسينويد التي تُفرز السيروتونين بكميات مفرطة.

🔍 لماذا يُطلب هذا التحليل؟
يُطلب تحليل السيروتونين في الحالات التالية:

عند ظهور أعراض مثل الهبّات الحرارية، الإسهال المزمن، والصفير التنفسي، والتي قد تُشير إلى وجود متلازمة الكارسينويد.

لمراقبة حالات تم تشخيصها سابقًا بأورام تُفرز السيروتونين.

🕒 متى يُجرى التحليل؟
يُجرى التحليل بناءً على تقييم الطبيب للحالة، وغالبًا بعد إجراء تحاليل أولية مثل 5‑HIAA أو Chromogranin A.

🧪 نوع العينة المطلوبة:
عينة بول مجمّعة على مدار 24 ساعة، ويجب اتباع تعليمات دقيقة أثناء الجمع، وتجنّب بعض الأدوية والأطعمة التي قد تؤثر على النتائج (مثل: الموز، الأفوكادو، الطماطم، والمكسرات).
