(Behçet disease)
هو التهاب الأوعية الدموية المزمـن الذي يمكن أن يسبب حدوث تقرحات فموية و تناسلية مؤلمة و آفات جلدية و مشاكـل عينيـة. و يمكن أن يحـدث التهاب في المفاصل و الجهاز العصبي. قد تظهر التقرحات و تختفي لتعود للظهور مره أخرى.

‏ما الحلول الممكنة اذا لم يحصل تحسن لارتشاح الشبكية عند مرضى السكري مع العلاج بحقن السائل الزجاجي؟

١- التأكد من ضبط مستوى السكر في الدم.
٢- الالتزام بمواعيد الحقن و الخطة العلاجية.
٣- تغيير نوع الحقنة الى نوع اخر.
٤- استخدام حقن الكورتيزون (جهاز الاوزردكس).
٥- في حال عدم الاستجابة التامة، عملية جراحية لازالة السائل الزجاجي.

‏هل كثرة اجراء ليزر الشبكية له تأثير مضر بالعين؟

✅ ليزر الشبكية لعلاج السكري لا يضر اجراءه عدة مرات و تكون بحسب كمية الليزر السابقة و حسب نشاط السكري في الشبكية، في الغالب بعد عدة جلسات اذا اكتمل العلاج لا يمكن اجراء المزيد من الليزر.

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania cured genetic blindness in 48 patients using gene therapy delivered through a single eye injection that corrected mutations causing retinal degeneration. Patients legally blind for years regained 20/20 vision within six weeks, with results remaining stable for over three years of follow-up. The treatment works by delivering functional copies of damaged genes directly into retinal cells using harmless viral vectors, permanently correcting the genetic errors responsible for vision loss.

The therapy targets Leber congenital amaurosis and retinitis pigmentosa—inherited conditions where genetic mutations prevent retinal cells from functioning properly, causing progressive blindness from childhood. The treatment uses adeno-associated viruses loaded with corrected gene sequences, injected beneath the retina where they infect photoreceptor cells and insert functional genes into cellular DNA. Once integrated, cells begin producing proteins they previously couldn't make, restoring normal light detection and signal transmission to the brain. The genetic correction is permanent—treated cells and their descendants maintain vision restoration indefinitely.

Imagine children born blind experiencing sight for the first time at age 10, or adults who lost vision gradually seeing loved ones' faces again. The treatment eliminates progressive vision loss, preventing blind futures for people carrying genetic mutations. Beyond inherited conditions, similar approaches could treat age-related macular degeneration—the leading cause of vision loss in elderly populations. Gene therapy could make most blindness preventable and curable within the next decade.

The FDA approved the treatment in early 2025 with therapy costing $850,000 per eye—expensive but potentially covered by insurance as a one-time cure preventing lifetime disability costs. The team is adapting the technology for other genetic eye diseases and exploring applications for acquired blindness from diabetes and glaucoma. 👁️ The future is clearer than ever.
