တပေါင်းလသည် မြန်မာလများတွင် ၁၂-လမြောက်ဖြစ်သည်။ တနှစ်တာ၏ နောက်ဆုံးလဖြစ်သည်။ တပေါင်းလ၏ ပထမလဝက်သည်ဆောင်းရာသီတွင် ကျရောက်သည်။ ဒုတိယလဝက်ကား နွေရာသီတွင် ကျရောက်သည်။ ဆောင်းကူးနွေစ သာယာလှသော လရာသီဖြစ်သည်။ထို့ကြောင့် ခေတ်အဆက်ဆက် စာဆိုတို့သည် တပေါင်းလ၏အလှကို ရေးဖွဲကြသည်မှာယနေ့တိုင်ဖြစ်သည်။ ရှေးယခင်က တပါင်းလပွဲတော်သည် သဲပုံစေတီပွဲတော် ဖြစ်သည်။ သဲပုံစေတီပွဲတော်သည် ပုဂံခေတ် (သို့မဟုတ်) ပုဂံခေတ်မတိုင်မီကပင် ပေါ်ပေါက်ခဲ့သည်ဟု အချို့က ဆိုကြသည်။ နောက်ပိုင်းတွင် သဲပုံစေတီပွဲတော် ကျင်းပသည့်ဓလေ့ တဖြည်းဖြည်း မှေးမှိန်သွားသည်။ တပေါင်းလပြည့်နေ့တွင် ဘုရားပွဲတော်များ ကျင်းပသည့် ဓလေ့ ခေတ်စားလာခဲ့သည်။ ထိုသို့ ဘုရားပွဲတော် ကျင်းပခြင်းကိုပင် “တပေါင်းလပွဲတော်”ဟု ခေါ်ကြသည်။ တပေါင်းလသည် ရာသီဥတု သာယာသည်နှင့်အမျှ သာသနာရေးတွင်လည်း မှတ်တမ်းတင်သင့်သော ဖြစ်ရပ်ကြီးများ ပေါ်ထွန်းခဲ့သည်။
ဗုဒ္ဓဘုရားရှင်လက်ထက်တော်က ဘုရားရှင်သည် ရာဇဂြိုဟ်ပြည် ဝေဠုန်ဝန်ကျောင်းတော်၌ သီတင်းသုံးကာ အင်္ဂတိုင်းနှင့် မဂဓတိုင်းမှ ဒကာ ဒကာမများအား တရားရေအေးတိုက်ကျွေးလျက်ရှိသည်။ ထိုသတင်းကို ခမည်းတော် သုဒ္ဓေါဒနမင်းကြီး ကြားသိသောအခါ သားတော်ဘုရားကို ဖူးတွေ့ချင်နေသည်။ ထို့ကြောင့် အမတ်တယောက်အား အခြွေအရံတထောင်နှင့်အတူ စေလွှတ်၍ ပင့်ခိုင်း၏။
ထိုအမတ်သည် ဗုဒ္ဓထံ ရောက်လာရာမှ တရားတော်ကိုနာရ၍ အခြွေအရံတို့နှင့်အတူ ရဟန်းပြုသွားသည်။ သုဒ္ဓေါဒနမင်းကြီးထံ ဘုရားရှင်ကြွရောက်တော်မူရန် မပင့်ဖြစ်ချေ။ မင်းကြီးလည်း နောက်ထပ်၍ အမတ်တို့ကို အြခွေအရံ တထောင်စီဖြင့်ကိုးကြိမ်တိုင်အောင် စေလွှတ်ခဲ့သည်။ သို့သော် အားလုံး ရဟန်းပြု၍ နေကြပြန်သည်။
ဆယ်ကြိမ်မြောက်တွင်မူ ဗုဒ္ဓဘုရားရှင်နှင့် ဖွားဖက်တော်ဖြစ်သော ကာဠုဒါယီအမတ်ကို စေလွှတ်သည်။ ကာဠုဒါယီအမတ်သည်လည်း ရှေးကအမတ်များနှင့်နည်းတူပင် နောက်ပါများနှင့်တကွ ရဟန်းပြုပြန်သည်။ သို့ရာတွင် ခရီးလမ်းပန်းသာယာသော တပေါင်းလအချိန်သို့ ရောက်သောအခါတွင်ကား လမ်းခရီးသာယာပုံ တပေါင်းအလှကို ဂါထာပေါင်း ၆၀-ဖြင့် ဖွဲ့နွဲ့ကာ ကပိလဝတ်ပြည်သို့ ကြွပါမည့်အကြောင်း ဘုရားရှင်အား လျှောက်ထားတောင်းပန်သည်။ ဗုဒ္ဓဘုရားရှင်လည်း လက်ခံကာ တပေါင်းလပြည့်နေ့၌ ကပိလဝတ်ပြည်သို့ ကြွတော်မူခဲ့သည်။
ဘုရားရှင် ကပိလဝတ်နေပြည်တော်သို့ကြွတော်မူခြင်းကြောင့်နိဂြောဓာရုံကျောင်းကြီး ပေါ်ပေါက်လာသည်။ ဂါထာ ၁၀ဝ၀-ဖြင့် တန်ဆာဆင်အပ်သော ဝေဿန္တရာဇာတ်တော်ကြီးကို ဟောတော်မူခဲ့သည်။ ခမည်းတော် သုဒ္ဓေါဒနမင်းကြီးသည်လည်းမဟာဓမ္မပါလဇာတ်တော်ကြီးကို ကြားနာရသဖြင့် အနာဂါမ် တည်ခဲ့သည်။ နောင်အခါအရဟတ္တဖိုလ် တည်သွားသည်။ ဗုဒ္ဓဘုရားရှင် ကပိလဝတ်ပြည်သို့ ကြွရောက်တော်မူ၍ တရားဟောတော်မူသဖြင့် မိထွေးတော်ဂေါတမီသည်လည်း သောတာပန်တည်သည်။ ယသော်ဓရာကို အကြောင်းပြု၍ စန္ဒကိန္နရီဇာတ်တော်ကိုလည်း ဘုရားဟောတော်မူခဲ့သည်။ ညီတော်နန္ဒမင်းသား ရဟန်းပြုဖြစ်သည်။ သားတော်ရာဟုလာ သာမဏေဘဝသို့ ရောက်ရှိသည်။ သာကီဝင်မင်းသားတထောင် ရဟန်းဘောင်သို့ ရောက်ရှိသည်။ ဆွေမျိုးတို့ ဘုရားရှင်ကို ကြည်ညိုစေရန် ဆောင်ရွက်ရာ၌ အထူးအောင်မြင်သဖြင့် ကာဠုဒါယီမထေရ်အား ကုလပ္ပသာဒ ဧတဒဂ်ဘွဲ့ ချီးမြှင့်တော်မူခဲ့သည်။
တပေါင်းလပြည့်နေ့သည် ဘုရားရှင် ပြည်တော်ဝင်ရန် စတင်ကြွလှမ်းသောနေ့ဖြစ်သဖြင့်လည်း ထိုနေ့ကို အကြောင်းပြု၍ သာသနာတော်၌ထူးခြားသော ဖြစ်ရပ်ကြီးများ ပေါ်ထွန်းခဲ့သည်။
ထို့ပြင် မဟာသက္ကရာဇ် ၁၀၃-ခု တပေါင်းလပြည့်ဗုဒ္ဓဟူးနေ့တွင် သိကြားမင်း၊ ဥက္ကလာပမင်းကြီး တပုဿနှင့်ဘလ္လိက ကုန်သည်ညီနောင်တို့ကြီးမှူး၍ရွှေတိဂုံစေတီတော်ကြီး တည်ထားခဲ့သည်ဟု သမိုင်းကဆိုသည်။ဤကား တပေါင်းလကို အကြောင်းပြု၍သာသနာတော်၌ ထူးခြားသော မှတ်တိုင်ကြီးများ ပေါ်ထွန်းလာခဲ့ခြင်း ဖြစ်ပေသည်။
