We are grateful for a DG that understands the unique needs of each training center - and has empowered the hospital director to tailor and balance the need for HO training and service provision.

An efficient, swift decision made in the best interests of all parties, and ultimately will improve patient care. 🙏🏼

As per the Medical Act amendment there was fear that EXISTING allowances for specialists will be cut during the gazettement period.

MMA SCHOMOS takes note of the assurance that specialist allowance will not be reduced in any way with the new NSR-SWE-gazettement modification, but rebranded as the BIPPW. We are thankful.

There are two pertinent questions:
1. During SWE - does the doctor oncall claim as MO or as specialist?
2. The BIPP Sabah Sarawak Labuan - would it be backdated to the beginning of SWE?

Also in the area of allowances for specialists - we are still awaiting the much needed subspecialist allowance, to better remunerate and retain our subspecialists.

MMA SCHOMOS is grateful for the chance to engage with PMX Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim over the working hours issue for healthcare workers and await official announcement by the government.

We also brought up other government healthcare issues such as the brain drain of doctors, contract/permanent doctor positions, oncall allowances and others.

Hopeful for firm action and much needed change!

Dr H has passed MedEx and BOTH parts of MRCS in his first two years as a contract medical officer.

He also has:
1 international certification
19 published articles/abstracts
12 international presentations
3 national presentations
8 international meetings
10 national meetings

Willing to go Sabah/Sarawak to serve - but still cannot get sent to his department of choice in a tertiary hospital in the latest contract to permanent placement.

He may quit, to go elsewhere to pursue his career.

𝗜𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗔𝗱𝗵𝗮𝗺

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jess Adham, who left us in 2025 after a courageous battle with high-grade glioma. Jess faced his diagnosis with quiet strength and unwavering grace, enduring surgery, radiotherapy, and the emotional toll of knowing that it would offer little hope for his condition.

One of Jess’s proudest final moments was taking part in the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻 under MAPPAC — a testament to his enduring spirit and his love for movement, community, and pushing personal limits. Though his body was waging a silent war, his presence at the starting line was a victory in itself—one that spoke volumes of his willpower, resilience, and passion.

Jess will be remembered not only for his bravery but for his warmth, kindness, and the quiet way he inspired those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, humility, and a reminder that every day is worth living fully.

The Malaysian Association of Paediatric Palliative Care (MAPPAC) is dedicated to supporting healthcare providers, volunteers, and caregivers in advancing paediatric palliative care in Malaysia. The World Health Organisation defines this care as the active total care of a child's body, mind, and spirit—including support for the family—when a child is living with a life-limiting illness. These are illnesses for which there is no cure and that ultimately result in a shortened lifespan. Read more on www.mappac.org

𝟯𝗞𝗠 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝘆: 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲
The includes a 3KM walk/run designed for participants from Special Olympics Sabah, the Malaysian Parkinson's Disease Association, MAPPAC, and the Palliative Care Association Kota Kinabalu. This inclusive category highlights perseverance, quiet strength, and the shared human experience.

The 3km category offers a gentle yet powerful way to be part of something greater. It welcomes participants of all abilities and backgrounds, making space for those whose journeys may not be defined by speed, but by heart, resilience, and presence. Taking part is a way to honour life, connection, and the quiet courage it takes to keep moving forward— together, 𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙥 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚.

The “Welcome on Board Doctors” programme organised by MMA Perlis on 7th July 2025 was a truly excellent initiative — thoughtfully crafted to support doctors as they begin their journey in a new workplace.

Beyond welcoming them, the event also served as a reminder that even in challenging times — including the growing issue of brain drain — there is always a shoulder to lean on.

Perlis marks the 6th state where this impactful programme has been carried out. During the sharing sessions, we witnessed many heartfelt and thoughtful reflections — a testament to the strength and resilience of our medical community.

Kudos to Dr. Sivabala for his vision, passion, and leadership in organising and expanding this meaningful programme nationwide — with more states to follow!
