KENDANA Malaysia Holds Inaugural AGM, Charting a Compassionate Future for the Caregiving Sector

KENDANA Malaysia celebrated a key milestone with its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the MyAgeing UPM Complex in Serdang, presided over by Chairman Rashidi Yahya . This landmark gathering brought together caregivers, industry professionals, and stakeholders to reflect on the organization’s progress and collaboratively shape the future of Malaysia’s caregiving sector.

The AGM set a crucial foundation for reinforcing the caregiving ecosystem and highlighted important objectives that will guide KENDANA's strategic roadmap moving forward. Some of the critical discussions included:

📈 Creating a Self-Regulating Ecosystem: Introducing a National Registry for caregivers and training providers to elevate caregiving standards and provide consistent, high-quality training.

🤝 Caregiver Support and Development Programs: Establishing mental health initiatives and respite programs to support emotional well-being and professional development of caregivers.

🔏 Advocating for Policy Reforms: Strengthening KENDANA’s role in driving policy changes that improve working conditions and foster a more sustainable caregiving framework.

🔊 Building a Community Platform: Launching a Caregiver Network & Resource Hub to nurture a stronger sense of community and provide valuable resources for caregivers nationwide.

The AGM fostered an open dialogue, allowing attendees to share experiences, challenges, and feedback that will guide KENDANA’s future actions. “This gathering marks the beginning of an important journey for KENDANA Malaysia,” remarked Chairman Mr. Rashidi Yahaya. “Our focus is now on achieving meaningful results that align with our shared vision—to advocate for and uplift the caregivers who are integral to our aged-care industry.”

The meeting concluded with the adoption of key resolutions, underscoring KENDANA’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the caregiving profession and addressing the needs of Malaysia’s ageing population.

Kendana Malaysia recently held a productive discussion with various Key-Players from both the private and government sectors under the initiative of Wanita Berdaya Selangor. Our focus was on the "Pembangunan Dasar Ekonomi Penjagaan Negeri Selangor - Teras 3: Penjaga Terlatih & Tenaga Kerja."During our meeting, we emphasized several key points that are crucial for advancing the caregiver sector:

1. Caregiver Career Path: Establishing clear and rewarding career trajectories for caregivers.
2. Caregivers Act: Advocating for comprehensive legislation to protect and empower caregivers.
3. Ecosystem: Creating a supportive ecosystem that fosters collaboration among various stakeholders.
4. Psychometric Implementation: Utilizing psychometric assessments to enhance caregiver training and placement.
5. Mental Health: Addressing mental health needs for both caregivers and those they care for, ensuring holistic support.
6. Supporting Technology: Leveraging technology to improve caregiver efficiency and service delivery.

We believe that by focusing on these areas, we can significantly enhance the quality of care provided in Selangor and empower the caregivers who play such a vital role in our community.

We are pleased to introduce an initiative led by our Chairman, Rashidi Yahya, focused on empowering local talent in the caregiver sector. This pilot program will enroll 100 graduates from Tahfiz Association of Malaysia in a three-month short course at UNISEL, with the goal of integrating them into various industries. This effort addresses the challenge of illegal foreign workers in the caregiver market while providing local graduates with the skills needed to succeed.

By fostering this ecosystem, we aim to reduce unemployment rates and create a brighter future for our local workforce. We extend our gratitude to UNISEL for their support in providing necessary facilities, training, and resources for this program. Additionally, the Tahfiz Association of Malaysia is committed to contributing to this care economy. Thank you for your continued support of this important initiative!
