"Our Grateful Islands Remember."

This week, we had the honor of welcoming Patti Wherritt-Robinson and Bill Wherritt to VFW Post 3457, alongside Patti’s husband Len, to commemorate their father, Robert C. Wherritt, a WWII Marine who served on Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa with the 6th Marines, 2nd Division.

Post 3457 presented the family with a commemorative WWII medallion and certificate issued during the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Saipan — honoring his role in the liberation of these islands.

Joining in the ceremony were Pastor Stephen Dame of Saipan Community Church and Post members Jesse Stole, Anthony Demapan, and Quartermaster Pete Callaghan, alongside Post Commander Brad Ruszala.

VFW Saipan Post 3457 Hosts Annual Chili Cook-Off – Free Entry, Limited Spots!

Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands — The VFW Saipan Post 3457 is fired up to announce the return of its beloved Chili Cook-Off, happening Saturday, May 3, 2025!

This flavorful showdown brings together the island’s boldest chili chefs to compete for bragging rights and prizes for the Top 3. Whether you're cooking or just tasting, it’s always a great time!

Event Details:

Date: Saturday, May 3, 2025

Location: VFW Saipan Post 3457

Open to Public / Setup Begins: 5:00 PM

Judging Starts: 6:30 PM

Entry Fee: Free!

Entry Limit: Only 10 cooking slots available

Prizes: Top 3 entries will take home awards

Entry is free, but space is limited! Whether you think your chili has what it takes or just want to join the fun, you’re welcome. Past events have drawn a great crowd and serious chili talent, and this year promises to bring the heat once again.

The VA Pacific Islands Healthcare System Guam Community Outpatient Clinic will be here in Saipan May 1-3, 2024. They will perform blood pressure screenings, routine vaccinations, diabetic foot exams, and other health screenings during their trip.
