Today We extend our sincere thanks to the Montserrat Children's Society for their generous donation of toys and noise-cancelling headphones to our health centres.

This thoughtful contribution will significantly enhance the experience of our pediatric clients by helping to reduce anxiety, provide comfort, and create a more child-friendly environment during clinic visits. Gestures like these make a meaningful difference to children and families accessing care.

We are truly grateful for your continued commitment to the wellbeing of children in our community and for partnering with us to improve pediatric care across Montserrat.

Please take note of the fogging schedule. Fogging helps reduce the population of adult mosquitoes who may be infected with the dengue virus, but we need everyone’s cooperation to protect our families and neighbourhoods.
Please take the following precautions:
Listen to ZJB for the fogging schedule.
Cover any drinking water and food items when fogging is ongoing in your neighbourhood.
Keep windows and doors open to allow the fog to pass through your home and kill any mosquitoes on the inside.
If sensitive to fog. Move out of area before fogging begins and for at least 30 minutes after.
Keep your surroundings clear of standing water to prevent mosquito breeding.
Protect yourself with loose, long clothing, nets, screens and repellents.
Your vigilance is essential in stopping the spread of dengue.
Let’s work together to keep our island safe.

Yesterday we proudly commissioned two major additions to our island’s health infrastructure—a Mobile Medical Van and a Solar Portable Storage Container.

These new resources will expand our ability to deliver services directly within communities, support screenings and preventive care, and ensure safe, energy-secure storage of essential medical supplies.

Acting Permanent Secretary Mrs. Viona Alexander-Smith shared that the mobile clinic is already making an impact. Since arriving, it has supported community foot-screening activities for Peripheral Artery Disease Awareness Month and an HIV screening campaign on World AIDS Day—demonstrating how this initiative is helping us bring care closer to the people who need it most.

Speaking on behalf of the OECS Commission, Dr. Roxanne Brizan-St. Martin highlighted that this investment reflects the region’s commitment to strengthening health-system resilience and ensuring continuity of care during emergencies.

A heartfelt thank you to the OECS Commission and Direct Relief for their invaluable support in making this project a reality. Your partnership continues to help us advance a healthier, more resilient Montserrat. 💙💚

About Us

The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MOHSS) is focused on building robust and transformative approaches to providing a better health system for Montserrat, that is integrated and equitable. Our Ministry will be working collaboratively with other Ministries in achieving this. We are embarking on a period of development and change, exploring possibilities for innovative approaches to enhance the work of the Ministry. Fundamental to these changes is the need to build strong communities and support them with community based initiatives, shifting the Ministry’s focus from a Secondary Care centric model to a Primary Care (community) model, aimed at building prevention and strong health promotion, reducing the burden for costly and sometimes unpleasant medical interventions through the Secondary Care (Hospital) setting.

In the MoHSS Strategic Plan 2019-2022, we attempt to address the needs of the most vulnerable in our society as well as strengthen and enhance our services so that they are in line with modern international standards and are effective, accessible, equitable and efficient for Montserrat.

Our Social Services Department will continue to embrace entire families and households, and strive to provide social safety nets to reduce hardship, and to embrace human dignity for all from the cradle to the grave, and where possible promote community development.

In late 2018, MoHSS worked with its staff and stakeholders to develop the overarching strategy, with Primary Health Care and Universal Health Coverage at the core. This 2019-22 strategic plan details MoHSS’s objectives and operations aimed at strengthening the health system based on a new ‘SMART’ Hospital, spearheaded by stronger primary health care: breaking down barriers to access; giving voice to the unheard; and enabling social participation, government action, intersectoral and multisectoral collaboration, and advocacy for health.
