Yesterday, the Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Ingrid Buffonge and the Permanent Secretary of Health, Mrs. Viona Alexander- Smith proudly distributed tokens of appreciation to nurses as a small gesture of thanks for the vital role they play in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our people.

We continue to celebrate our nurses this week for their invaluable service and for the difference they make in the lives of individuals and families throughout our island.

This week we join the global observance of Salt Week by encouraging everyone to take steps toward reducing salt consumption and improving overall health.

Excess salt intake is a major contributor to high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems. Many processed and packaged foods contain hidden salt, making it important for individuals and families to read nutrition labels, prepare healthier meals at home and choose fresh foods whenever possible.

This Salt Week, we encourage the public to:

Taste food before adding salt
Use herbs and spices instead of salt for flavour
Limit processed and fast foods
Choose low-sodium products when available
Promote healthy eating habits within families and communities

Small changes can make a big difference. By reducing salt intake, we can lower the risk of chronic diseases and build a healthier Montserrat together.

Together we can salt it out.

This World Salt Awareness Week, CARPHA joins the global call to raise awareness about the health risks associated with excessive salt consumption, while calling on government and the food industry to implement policies and interventions that reduce salt consumption and associated health risks.

This year’s theme, “Salt it Out,” reminds us that small daily changes can make a big difference.
Let’s take simple steps toward healthier lives and stronger communities.

It's World Oral Health Day and Toothy the Bear is back to remind you that a Happy Mouth is a Happy Life!

At our Dental Clinic, we believe that a happy mouth truly is a happy life! Your smile isn’t just about looking good. In fact it’s a key part of your overall health, confidence, and well-being.

Today’s theme is a reminder that taking care of your oral health can positively impact everything from how you eat and speak to how you feel every single day. 😊

Here are a few simple ways to keep your mouth happy:
✔️ Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
✔️ Floss daily
✔️ Eat a balanced, tooth-friendly diet
✔️ Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings

A healthy smile can boost your confidence, prevent disease, and improve your quality of life so don’t take it for granted!

Let’s celebrate by committing to better oral health habits today and every day. Your future self (and your smile!) will thank you.
