FM DX Europe 1 Lourdes 101.0 MHz From Lourdes [Local]. This was during the holiday trip to Lourdes. The place of recording is in Hotel Roissy. It reached RDS levels by displaying ‘EUROPE 1’ with its PI Code ‘F213’. It tended that the hotel room was quite well and did not cause any interference which the TEF6686 performance was great. It is broadcasting from France’s Lourdes FM Transmitter that houses around 3 kW in transmission power which is approximately 5 kilometres towards Lourdes. 73 😊

FM DX Radio Sicilia Avola Siracusa 91.2 MHz From Malta [Tropo]. It used to be broadcasting on the former frequency of 99.0 MHz, up until it moved to its 91.2 MHz last year. Radio Deejay on 91.2 MHz used to be received uncommonly depending on tropo conditions. ID is heard by 0:10. Advertisements are heard along the way. RDS levels were not reached. It is broadcasting from Sicily’s Avola FM Transmitter which houses around 2.5kW in transmission power and is approximately 130 kilometres away towards Siracusa. 73 😊

FM DX Riqdalin Radio Riqdalin 89.7 MHz From Malta [Tropo]. The place of catch was around Wied Iz-Zurrieq which in that spot, it was blocking Bay Radio’s local frequency coming from Gharghur. Station does not carry any RDS data. The TEF6686 in this instance did very quite well. It is broadcasting from Libya’s Riqdalin FM Transmitter that houses around 3.8 kW in transmission power which is approximately 400 kilometres away. 73 😊

AM DX SW 15255 KHz Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Turkish From Malta. The XHDATA D-808 did quite well as it was placed inside with using its own telescopic antenna and it provided good audible reception. According to Short Wave Info, it is no longer transmitting as it used to be broadcasting from 16:00 PM to 18:00 PM (UTC+2). It is broadcasting from Thailand’s Udon Thani Transmitter which houses only around 1 kW in transmission power which is approximately 8,735 kilometres away towards Udon Thani. 73 😊

[1.5K Sub Special] FM DX Nile FM Cairo 104.2 MHz From Malta [Tropo]. It was caught on 23/08/2025 at around 09:20 AM (UTC+2). As soon as I noticed tropo was coming along on major NMA stations, I found the first stop around Triq l-Imdina in H’Attard and had to stop which a number of stations began coming in and shadowing some of the Sicilian stations. The place is an open air spot which several stations reached RDS levels such as this one displaying ‘Nile FM’.

Cairo has been noticed multiple times in Malta despite being rare but this is the first time that stations reached RDS levels. Cairo is both caught via Tropo and Sporadic-E and the latter has been noticed this season as well. It is broadcasting from Egypt’s Al Qahira FM Transmitter which houses around 10 kW in transmission power that is approximately 1,690 kilometres away towards Cairo. This is one of the most distant tropo catches around the Mediterranean reaching RDS levels!

FM DX Radio Trinitas Tulcea 96.5 MHz From Malta [Sporadic-E][2025]. Great SpE catches reaching RDS levels were logged towards Romania, Moldova with a hint from Turkey and Poland. TEF6686 did quite well whilst connected to the 7 Element Yagi Antenna. It reached RDS levels on displaying ‘TRINITAS – 96,5 MHz’ with its PI Code ‘E24D’. It is broadcasting from Romania’s Galati FM Transmitter that houses around 10 kW in transmission power which is approximately 1,560 kilometres away towards Tulcea. 73 😊

AM DX MW 567 KHz SRR Radio Romania Actualitati Brasov From Malta. The XHDATA D-808 did quite well despite audio was not being heard that much clear. Back then, it used to run a 24 hour schedule whereas nowadays it runs from 05:55 AM to 22:00 PM (UTC+2). It is broadcasting from Romania’s Bod Colonie Transmitter that houses around 50 kW in transmission power that is approximately 1,440 kilometres away towards Brasov. 73 😊

OIRT DX BR Radio Stalitsa Gomel 70.28 MHz From Malta [Sporadic-E][2024]. Very brief SpE was caught but the one caught on OIRT was quite stable with very long fades. The TEF6686 did quite well whilst connected with the 7 Element Yagi Antenna. ID is heard by 0:48. It is broadcasting from Belarus’s Smetanichi FM Transmitter which at that time the transmission power was listed at 8.65 kW which nowadays is 9.247 kW which is approximately 2,130 kilometres away towards Gomel. 73 😊

FM DX Radio Deejay Veneto 89.3 MHz From Malta [Sporadic-E][2022]. Brief SpE opening which this begins to fade quite well around August. Despite the XHDATA D-808 tried to maintain its reception with constant fades, it did not reach RDS levels. It is broadcasting from Italy’s Valdobbiadene FM Transmitter which houses around 50.1 kW in transmission power that is approximately 1,140 kilometres away towards Veneto. 73 😊

FM DX RTT Radio Culture Monastir 103.7 MHz From Malta [Tropo]. Duct tropo was observed towards parts in Tunisia whilst being around Wied Iz Zurrieq. This one managed to overtake a local station, ‘Campus FM’ which is few kilometres away towards Gharghur TX. You can hear the duct within the transmission itself. Not only that but it managed to encode its RDS Data by displaying ‘CULTURE’. It was changing to 105.4 MHz, due to being the strongest signal at that time. It is broadcasting from Tunisia’s Amiret Hatem FM Transmitter that houses around 1.5 kW in transmission power and is approximately 335 kilometres away towards Monastir. 73 😊

AM DX SW 7440 KHz China Radio International in Chinese From Malta. The XHDATA D-808 was placed indoors which the reception performance was fair using its own telescopic antenna as it was audible. According to Short Wave Info, the schedule has changed and it used to be broadcasting everyday from 21:00 PM to 22:00 PM (UTC+1). It used to be broadcasting from China’s Beijing Transmitter that housed around 500 kW in transmission power that is approximately 8,410 kilometres away towards Beijing. 73 😊

FM DX RNE Radio Clasica Minorca 97.1 MHz From Malta [Tropo]. Duct level tropo towards Western Mediterranean as apart it reached Minorca, it reached as well mainland Spain. The place of catch was around Popeye’s Village which opens a great rift towards the sea, acting as a straight line. It reached RDS levels on displaying ‘RNE-CLAS’ with its PI Code showing as ‘RNE-CLAS’. It is broadcasting from Balearic Islands’s Es Mercadal FM Transmitter which houses around 10 kW in transmission power that is approximately 1,005 kilometres away towards Minorca. 73 😊
