This week we’re championing something very close to home 🏠
Our very own alumni , Artistic Director at Chewing Productions, is spearheading ‘Il-Kunsill tat-Triq’. This is a project blending hip-hop, theatre and activism to explore how we design, use, and experience public space in Malta today.
And here’s how you can help!👇
If our streets, our squares, our urban & natural spaces mean something to you - if you’ve ever felt frustrated, inspired, disconnected, hopeful, whatever… this is your invitation to step into the conversation!!

3 years since we were in rehearsals for Il-Giddieb Għomru Twil, our 10-year anniversary piece 🤩 A story about truth and illusion, about the lies we tell others and the ones we tell ourselves.
Some projects pass. Others stay with you. This one definitely still lingers.
Forever thankful for every collaborator, creative, crew member, and audience member who carried that story with us :)

We’re really proud to share that , a current member of our mentorship programme, will be performing in Margerita: Forget Me Not - a musical theatre performance in aid of cancer support, happening later this month on the 27th and 28th of February 🎤
📣 “I’m super excited to be a part of Margerita. It’s a great opportunity to work with amazing artists whilst also supporting such an important cause 💛”
Big shoutout to Luigi and everyone involved in bringing this meaningful project to life. Go show some love!! 🌼

Earlier this month, Jean spent a few days in London catching up with collaborators, sitting in on working group discussions, and figuring out how to fit all of these new books on his shelf 😅
Conversations around future directions, time spent in ideation meetings, plenty of moments buried in books and shows, learning approaches, and early production planning for 2027. Can't wait to start telling you all about it later on this year!!! 😉

Thank you for showing up for CoRES 🌱
Our KAKTUS CoRES workshops were made meaningful by the people in the room: artists, cultural practitioners, sustainability thinkers, and young voices who brought curiosity, generosity, and care into every conversation.
A special thank you to our partners and delegates from aKTI (Cyprus) and RunOnArt (Greece) for sharing knowledge, perspectives, and solidarity across borders, and to Simone Spiteri and Francesco Grech for their powerful artistic interventions, which opened up new ways of thinking and feeling throughout the day.
From shared questions to collective imagining, these moments reminded us that building more just and sustainable cultural futures starts with coming together.
Thank you all. We’ll be sharing more photos soon.

On the note of throwbacks and photo dumps… the happiest of birthdays to our very own Jean-Marc Cafà 🎉
This place wouldn’t be the same without you, and neither would the people in it (and I mean this in the best way possible 😛). Your care, curiosity, and commitment to growth has continuously shaped how we learn, lead, and create together, and we really wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Thank you for continuing to influence, guide, challenge, and champion us on such a consistent basis. We’re endlessly grateful for the space you hold, and we hope you know we love you lots.
Now everybody say HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEAN!! 🎂✨

Art as a catalyst for change 🌵
We’re excited to feature artistic interventions by and as part of CoRES.
Their work will run alongside the workshops, using artistic practice as a way to prompt reflection, challenge our assumptions, and open up new ways of thinking about sustainability in the cultural and creative sector.
They’ll actively shape the conversations helping us connect policy, practice, and lived experience through creative exchange.
👉 Join us at our free CoRES workshops on 24 January

Hopping on the 2016 trend ✌️ So many faces, shows, late nights, first chances, risks taken, lessons learned. Looking back through this archive feels like opening a time capsule of friendships, growth, and moments that shaped who we are today :').
Yes, it was a different time, with different people and different versions of ourselves... but looking at these photos, you start to wonder. Have things really changed that much?
Can you spot some familiar faces? Or recognise a show that still lives in your head? 👀
Lastly thank you for unintentionally giving us the most memed Studio photo of the last decade. It only felt right to let it lead the way in this little throwback x

We’ve been talking a lot about our upcoming free workshops…but what is CoRES really all about? 🌱
A few months ago, .perini spoke with Creative Europe Desk Malta to break down our Creative Europe project CoRES: why it’s relevant now, how it connects culture and sustainability, and what it’s really like to access EU funding.
Next week, CoRES comes to life through our Kaktus workshops - a full day of participatory sessions bringing together cultural practitioners, sustainability experts, and young people.
• The Living Lab explores challenges and opportunities for sustainable cultural practice.
• The Co-creation Café centres youth voices, translating ideas into recommendations that will feed directly into an EU-level policy report.
The workshops are free, open to all, and your contributions won’t just stay in the room, they’ll help shape future European cultural policies.

Get inside the box, to think outside of it!
Studio 18 was set up in light of Malta's successful bid to host European Capital of Culture in 2018. Since its inception, the Studio has created work such as #babydaddy and The Brat and That, Limbo and Dear Pete, and performed and collaborated locally and overseas.
The Studio operates in 3 areas:
- training programmes
- performances and projects
- creative learning for schools
Studio 18 activities range from youth projects to individual mentorship, consultancy and services to schools, collaborations with other creative enterprises and ultimately, the Creative Lab. The organisation's unique position at The Box in Mosta and Teatru Salesjan in Sliema allows its members to thrive, collaborate, feed off a host of arts entities which are also resident at this space; this environment is an invaluable stimulus!
