These are the (dare we say?) masterminds behind Disability Through the Lens: Our Life Stories | Photographic Exhibition Here we are, striking a pose at the launch after months of nonstop hard work and preparation. This particular photo captures 📸 a spontaneous moment where one of us - won’t say who - just said something funny.

📢 A huge shout-out to Sandra Borg and Lorainne Attard Pleven - the long-standing gurus at CRPD - whose communications and event-organising expertise brought nothing but precision and beauty to the exhibition. Lara Calleja, the newest member, landed right in the heart of the beautiful hustle and bustle of planning, and is now proudly part of the COMMS team.

And then there’s Melanie Erixon, the curator who not only brought our idea to life but was there for the big picture and the tiniest details. To say it was a pleasure to work with you would be an understatement. Your professionalism, kindness, and attention to every little detail are what made this exhibition truly special. 💯

We would also like to thank our colleague Andrea Gergis, who has supported the exhibition’s preparations over the past years, as well as our Commissioner Rhoda Garland and Director Dr Denise Zammit, who were always patient, prompt, and generous with their feedback, assistance, and valuable insights.

The exhibition is open for the last two days (until the 4th of January), Hall Ċ, at Saint James Cavalier, Valletta.

✨ Official Exhibition Launch – Video Highlights ✨

We’re excited to share the video from the official launch of our exhibition, held at Saint James Cavalier, Valletta, on the 3rd of December.

It was truly a night full of spirit, warmth, and togetherness. We were especially happy to see some of the photo protagonists and the photographers who captured the images featured in the exhibition, along with other members who were involved in bringing this project to life.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this exhibition what it is. Your presence and support meant a lot. 💛

🎧 Meet the Audiodescription Team from the University of Malta

We woule like to give praise to the valuable work of the Audiodescription team (from the left: Dr Giselle Spiteri Miggiani, Kimberly Cutajar and Aimee Sciberras) from the University of Malta. They are the persons behind the creation of a fully immersive audiodescription for the Disability Through the Lens: Our Life Stories | Photographic Exhibition

We would like to take a moment to explain what audiodescription actually is.
Audiodescription is a form of accessibility that uses spoken narration to describe visual elements such as artworks, spaces, movements, colours and expressions. It was originally developed to support blind and visually impaired audiences, but its value goes far beyond that.

Audio description also benefits
• persons with visual impairment
• neurodivergent audiences
• visitors who prefer auditory learning
• anyone who wants to experience an exhibition in a deeper, more imaginative way
In short, it transforms seeing into listening, opening up new ways of experiencing art.

🎙️ How to listen

The 15-minute Audiodescription can be listened to at the exhibition, where both Maltese and English versions are available, or online through the links below.

🔹 Audiodescription in Maltese:

🔹Audiodescription in English:
https://www.crpd.org.mt/disability-through-the-lens-our-life-stories/

We invite you to put on your headphones, slow down, and experience the exhibition through sound.

Accessibility is not an add-on. It is part of the art.

2025: Sena ta' Tisħiħ ma' ACTIVATE! ✨📣

Din is-sena, ACTIVATE, proġett iffinanzjat mill-UE 🇪🇺 u kofinanzjat minn Erasmus+, iffoka fuq l-appoġġ taż-żgħażagħ awtistiċi madwar l-Ewropa biex jgħinhom jibnu l-kunfidenza u jitkellmu għalihom infushom 🗣️.

Minn riċerka ma' 97 żagħżugħ awtistiku, sat-tnedija tal-Akkademja tal-Avukatura tal-Awtiżmu, bnejna kurrikulu ta' sitt taqsimiet li jkopru l-avukatura, l-edukazzjoni, il-kura tas-saħħa, l-impjieg, id-drittijiet legali, u l-attiviżmu diġitali.

Ħloqna wkoll il-Programm Train-the-Trainer, li jgħin lill-edukaturi jibnu spazji inklużivi u aċċessibbli fejn kull vuċi hi importanti.

X’ħa jsir issa? ⏭️

Żgħażagħ awtistiċi, trejners, u riċerkaturi ngħaqdu flimkien biex joħolqu programm li jiċċelebra n-newrodiversità u jmexxi l-bidla soċjali.

Is-sena d-dieħla, il-kurrikulu tagħna se jiġi ttestjat ma’ 70 żagħżugħ awtistiku f’Malta, il-Portugall, iċ-Ċekja, u l-Belġju.

🙏 Grazzi kbira lil kull min kien parti minn ACTIVATE din is-sena. L-appoġġ tagħkom huwa dak li jagħmel dan kollu possibbli!

🎉 2025: A Year of Empowerment & Advocacy with ACTIVATE! 🌍💙

This year, ACTIVATE, an EU-funded project co-financed by Erasmus+, has focused on supporting autistic youth across Europe in developing confidence as self-advocates.

From research with 97 autistic young people to launching the Autism Advocacy Academy, we’ve built a six-unit curriculum covering advocacy, education, healthcare, employment, legal rights, and digital activism. ✨

We also created the Train-the-Trainer Programme, helping educators build inclusive, accessible spaces where every voice matters.

💡 Steps Forward:
Autistic youth, trainers, and researchers came together to co-create a programme celebrating neurodiversity and driving social change.

Next year, our curriculum will be piloted with 70 autistic youth in Malta, Portugal, Czechia, and Belgium.

Are you an autistic person aged 16-29 in Europe? 🌟 Join the pilot and help shape a future led by advocacy, inclusion, and pride! Learn more at 👉 https://neuroadvocacy.eu/

💖 A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of ACTIVATE this year. Your support is what makes all this possible!

Dan il-filmat qed jistiednek tidħol fid-dinja ta’ persuni Deaf/Neqsin mis-Smigħ.

Huwa t-tielet filmat minn serje ta’ ħamsa li qed iħares lejn kif nistgħu noħolqu soċjetà aktar aċċessibbli, kif dan ukoll huwa stipulat fil-UNCRPD li tagħmel parti mil-liġijiet Maltin. L-aċċessibilità u l-inklużjoni jfissru li kull persuna għandha l-opportunità tgħix il-potenzjal tagħha b'mod sħiħ. Dan huwa dritt bażiku ta’ kull individwu.

Relatat mat-tema, il-Lingwa tas-Sinjali Maltija hija meqjusa bħala l-lingwa uffiċjali - flimkien mal-Malti u l-Ingliż.

Our Disability Equality Training team recently delivered an awareness session to Decathlon employees, focusing on disability etiquette and inclusive behaviour in the workplace. The session ended with a practical case scenario, where employees engaged openly, asked thoughtful questions, and interacted well with the team.

The level of participation reflected a clear commitment to learning and embedding inclusive practice 🤝
