The Role of in Monitoring the Impact of in Europe

At the recent panel discussion, our Commissioner Rhoda Garland shared insights on Malta’s approach to the AI Act. She highlighted the importance of protecting from discrimination in AI systems, the need for accessible information, and the role of equality bodies in ensuring rights are upheld as AI continues to develop across Europe.

Nicole, CRPD’s Executive 1 for Communications, joined a group of young people at the Youth Activism Camp organised by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ. Together, they explored what activism means in practice.

Participants asked thoughtful questions about disability, LGBT+ issues, and the challenges involved in being an activist. Their genuine curiosity and active engagement made for a meaningful discussion.

Women and girls with intellectual disabilities face some of the highest levels of discrimination and exclusion in Europe.

Inclusion Europe’s report on Gender (in)equality of women and girls with intellectual disabilities in Europe is out!
The report looks at their situation across 8 key areas:

🗳️ Right to decide and to vote
🏠 Right to live independently and be included in the community
🔑 Housing and support
📚 Education
💼 Employment
🩺 Healthcare
🎤 Representation

The report also shares stories of change and leadership – women with intellectual disabilities stepping into politics and leading self-advocacy movements 💪.

As the EU prepares its next Gender Equality Strategy (2026–2030), we call for the voices and needs of women and girls with intellectual disabilities to be included.
Only then can we achieve a true Union of Equality 🤝💫.
