✨🤰🏼 🤱🏼✨
Guys. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard myths and just complete crap about this!⠀
⠀
Colostrum. Is. Milk.⠀
⠀
You don’t have wait until your "milk comes in" to breastfeed. In fact, you should be nursing around the clock in those early days. ⠀
⠀
Your baby does not need supplementation because your milk hasn't "come in."⠀
⠀
Part of the equation to robust milk production, is how much stimulation and milk removal that happens in those first few weeks.⠀
⠀
Of course there are circumstances that call for supplementation and extra calories, but, these are much less common than we regularly see.⠀
⠀
The amount of women that are told to supplement in the hospital on day two and three is absurd. Instead of figuring out why a baby can't nurse effectively, or actually offering any helpful advice, the knee jerk reaction is to supplement. ⠀
⠀
Some women are fine with this, that's great! But a woman that wants to exclusively breastfeed deserves the support and knowledge of her options. ⠀
⠀
It's important that parents are educated on normal baby behaviors and the fact that their baby will want to camp out on the breast OFTEN. (Way more often than every 3 hours, especially in the early weeks)⠀
⠀
It's also so important to know that your body is designed to feed your baby. Nature gave us lots of "safety nets" for production. Your body can compensate for a lot. (If in doubt, please reach out! I offer virtual support! 😉)⠀
