⭐️ Meet the Speaker- Ms. Mariah Spiteri ⭐️

Ms. Spiteri is a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) graduate in Podiatry from the University of Malta. She has a special interest in sports and paediatric podiatry, with a particular focus on biomechanics and the prevention of foot conditions. She has participated in multiple school-based screening programmes, which strengthened her clinical knowledge and practical experience in the assessment of the paediatric foot. She has a keen interest in early intervention and promotion of long-term musculoskeletal health through education and preventative care.

⭐️ Meet our Speaker- Dr. Bernice Saliba ⭐️

Dr Bernice Saliba is an experienced legal professional with a diverse background spanning both the public and private sectors. She graduated with a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) from the University of Malta in 2017 and was admitted to the Bar in 2018.
Throughout her academic career, Bernice was actively involved in student organisations, most notably serving as President of ELSA Malta, where she advocated for legal education and professional development. She undertook her student traineeship with AE Legal and was subsequently selected for a Blue Book Traineeship with DG CONNECT at the European Commission in Luxembourg.
Following her time at the European Commission, Bernice transitioned into the private sector, specialising in corporate law, data protection, and digital assets. She later joined the Office of the State Advocate as a litigator, where she represented government entities in a variety of legal matters and acted as the primary contact point for the ministry responsible for health and its affiliated entities.
Bernice further expanded her legal experience by serving as a court attorney to the Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court, assisting in the drafting of judgments. She has since returned to the private sector as a Senior Associate with AE Legal, where she focuses on litigation in civil, commercial, constitutional, and administrative matters.

⭐️ Meet the Speaker- Dr. Jesmond Attard ⭐️

Dr Jesmond Attard is an Orthotist/Prosthetist and Manager of Orthotic & Prosthetic Services within the Department of Health. He is also a Lecturer within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Malta, and the Course Coordinator of the new Master of Science Degree in Orthotics & Prosthetics. He first qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1987, under the auspices of the Department of Health. In 1996 he graduated with a B.Sc (Hons) in Prosthetics & Orthotics and, eventually with a Ph.D, both from the University of Salford, UK.

⭐️ Meet our Speaker- Mr. Ivan Farrugia ⭐️

Ivan Farrugia is a Maltese state-registered podiatrist specialising in podopaediatrics, with more than two decades of clinical and professional leadership experience. After obtaining his initial podiatry qualification in Malta, he completed an MSc in Podiatry at Glasgow Caledonian University and a postgraduate certificate in paediatric podiatry. Since the mid-2000s he has led the Podopaediatric Clinic within Malta’s Podiatry Centre of Excellence, contributing to national school-screening programmes and multidisciplinary paediatric care.
Farrugia has held long-standing leadership roles within the profession. He served for several years as President of the Association of Podiatrists of Malta (APM), guiding professional development, national standards, and international collaboration. His leadership expanded globally when he was elected President of the International Federation of Podiatrists (FIP), serving during the 2022–2024 term after previously occupying senior executive roles. His tenure in both APM and FIP strengthened podiatry governance, education, and global professional alignment.

⭐️ Meet our Speaker- Dr. Anne Marie ⭐️

Dr. Anne Marie Cicilini Mesquita is a paediatrician at Mater Dei Hospital currently subspecialising in paediatric neurology. She graduated with a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery in 2010 and completed her paediatric specialisation in 2021. Dr. Mesquita has worked as a Fellow in Acute Neurology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, UK, where she was actively involved in the care of children with acute neurological problems, complex epilepsy and neurosurgical complications.
She also holds a Master of Science in Biomedical Science by research, completed in 2015, and obtained her Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2016. Dr. Mesquita is actively involved in medical education and has lectured within the Departments of Pharmacology, Paediatrics, and Medicine at the University of Malta.

⭐️ Meet our Speaker- Dr. Marilyn Muscat ⭐️

Dr Marilyn Muscat is an Educational and Child Psychologist trained in London where she pursued a Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology. She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council in the United Kingdom and the Malta Psychology Profession Board. Dr Muscat holds a Degree in Psychology and a Postgraduate Certificate in Personal and Social Development, which also qualified her as a teacher.
Dr Muscat has extensive experience across primary, secondary, and post-secondary educational settings. She has delivered training, lectures, and workshops in various professional contexts. In recent years, she has also specialised in adult assessments, particularly in relation to neurodiversity, including Autism and ADHD. Her clinical work spans psychological assessment, psychoeducation, and therapeutic interventions.
Alongside her practice, Dr Muscat is active in academia. She lectures on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supervises dissertation research, and serves on examination boards. Her research interests centre on neurodiversity.

⭐️ Meet our Speaker- Mr. Stephen Coombs⭐️

After Qualifying, Steve became interested in MSK conditions occurring in adults and children. Steve is a Podiatry Professional Lead Managing Children`s Podiatry services, Education and Future Generations portfolio`s.
Steve is the current RCOP Wales Chair as well as being involved with teaching both undergraduate / postgraduate students.
Steve champions service improvement, his team have received the JH Podiatry award, Clinical Board QSE award for SMILE as well as winning two Making it Better awards for waiting list reduction/innovation.
QuickChange is the latest award -winning collaborative project, possibly the most important of his career, even the Welsh Children`s Minster came to visit, listen and recognise this initiative

A delegation of MFPA Council attended a meeting with Prime Minister Dr Robert Abela, and Ministers Michael Falzon, Julia Farrugia and Jo Etienne Abela. We discussed various matters related to professionals including the importance of consultation with professional organisations in policy making.
