Biography
Andrew Sciberras is a Doctor of Audiology and has been practising as an Audiologist for 20 years. He holds a doctorate in audiology from the Nova Southeastern University in Florida, a Masters degree in Audiological Sciences from University College London and a Baat Certificate in Technical Audiology. He began working with the health department in Malta where he helped to run the audiology clinic at St Luke’s Hospital and Mater Dei Hospital as a senior Allied Healthcare Professional. He has vast experience in the field of audiology, with a strong focus on adult audiology, paediatric audiology and hearing aids. He was also played a key role in introducing the cochlear implant programme in Malta. He set up his own hearing aid clinic in the year 2000 where he also used to manufacture his own moulds after following a training course at Starkey Laboratories on ear mould manufacturing and hearing aid repairs. Since then he always kept up to date with the latest technology and evidence-based practice to be able to provide the best possible service to his clients. Andrew has provided academic work to local educational institutions including supervision and lectures to students at the Malta College for Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) and lecturing and mentoring at the University of Malta. He has also lectured and given talks both locally and abroad and is an external supervisor for Aston University in Birmingham, UK. Andrew is the first Maltese Audiologist to hold a warrant to practise the audiology profession in Malta and was instrumental in holding talks with the council for professional complementary to medicine to register the profession and have it regulated. He is currently president of the Maltese Association of Audiologists (MAA) that he set up together with other local audiologists to promote and safeguard the professional practise of audiology in Malta. He also represents the MAA at the European Association of Hearing aid Professionals (AEA). Recently through a collaboration with The Tinnitus Clinic, UK’s leader in providing evidence- based tinnitus treatments, Andrew is now licenced to provide their tinnitus services making him the first in Malta to have the adequate knowledge to provide this type of treatment with the full support of this professional company.
Andrew Sciberras created his practise with a dream in mind to be able to offer a professional service using up to date evidence based practice and to give his clients quality care and aftersales service.
In his own time Andrew likes to practise sports diving, sailing and play musical instruments. He is a Scouts leader in a local group and has also been an active Volunteer Rescuer and Firefighter for the past 14 years with the local Civil Protection Department.
