The Malta Association of Physiotherapists congratulates Stephen Lungaro Mifsud on his promotion to Associate Professor. 👏

A well-deserved achievement recognising his valuable contribution to physiotherapy education and the profession in Malta. We wish him continued success in this new academic role.

Warmest congratulations to Prof. Stephen Lungaro Mifsud on his promotion to Associate Professor.

This is a richly deserved recognition of his long-standing contribution to physiotherapy education, clinical education, rehabilitation, ageing, digital health, and the continued development of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Department of Physiotherapy.

Prof. Lungaro Mifsud’s academic and professional journey reflects quiet leadership, commitment to collaboration, and a deep investment in the growth of others - colleagues, students, practitioners, and the profession itself. His work has contributed significantly to the development of physiotherapy in Malta, particularly in relation to older persons, community and home rehabilitation, clinical mentorship, and health innovation.

On behalf of the Department of Physiotherapy, we extend our sincere congratulations and best wishes as he continues to contribute to the University, the Faculty, and the wider profession in this new academic role.

Well done, Stephen. A proud moment for the Department and Faculty. 👏

Stephen Lungaro-Mifsud

On behalf of the Malta Association of Physiotherapists, we extend our sincere thanks to Dr Stephen Lungaro Mifsud for his years of dedicated leadership and contribution to physiotherapy education. We also warmly congratulate Dr John Xerri de Caro, whose continued support and guidance to the current MAP committee has been invaluable, and we wish him every success in his new role as Head of Department.

Hear ye! Hear ye! 📣📣

It may not be Christmas just yet, but it is certainly a moment for celebration.đź””

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr John Xerri de Caro as Head of the Department of Physiotherapy. Dr Xerri de Caro succeeds Dr Stephen Lungaro-Mifsud, who, over the past seven years provided dedicated and effective leadership, guiding the Department’s development into a cohesive, student-centred community of educators and academics with a strong commitment to growth and advancement. We wish to formally thank Dr Lungaro-Mifsud for his service, leadership, and sustained contribution to the Department.

Dr Xerri de Caro brings to this role extensive academic and professional experience, together with leadership skills shaped through significant international engagement, including executive responsibilities within the European Region of World Physiotherapy. He is actively involved in quality assurance processes and regularly participates in, and leads, accreditation and evaluation exercises of physiotherapy programmes across universities.

His strong commitment to good governance, academic standards, and student-centred learning has earned him the respect of colleagues and students alike. We are confident that, under his leadership, the Department of Physiotherapy will continue to strengthen its academic profile and flourish in its educational and professional mission. A fresh start, supported by all.

Please join us in wishing him every success in this new position.
