Visiting my Thai Fire Massage teacher, Ajarn Annop.

In Thai, this ancient art is called Yam Khang—a rare healing tradition from the Lanna people of Northern Thailand.

🔥 Fire Massage is performed using the feet 👣 (fire never touches the client). It is often combined with Tok Sen, a gentle wooden tapping technique that supports ligaments, tendons, and bones while calming the nervous system. Its rhythmic vibrations release tension, improve circulation, and balance energy.

🌿 The ritual concludes with a soothing, aromatic herbal ball (Luk Pra Kob), leaving the body warm, relaxed, and deeply revitalised.

And here, beside me with my messy hair, are two massage champions: Suwit Sritrairasri Steve and Anne Welch. Both respectfully came to visit my teacher, Ajarn Suwat, yesterday. I first met them around 6 years ago at the International Massage Association championship, where Anne was performing right next to me. We had already become friends before she went on to win her well-deserved medal.

Now, both Steve and Anne have been invited as judges at the Massage Championship in Thailand. What an honour, and what luck, to cross paths with so many talented people!

Today was nothing short of a true testimony. A 99 year old monk traveled over 6 hours from the south of Thailand all the way north… just to receive a medical massage from Ajarn Suwat. That alone says it all. 🙏

I feel truly blessed to have walked this path for so many years under the guidance of Ajarn Suwat, one of the rare true masters of medical massage in Thailand. Forever grateful. 💛

In this video, I’m explaining to my customer that I’m training to become a massage teacher.

Since he barely speaks English, I try to bridge the gap using broken Maltese which, funnily enough, sounds close to Arabic.

Unlike in the West, where massage usually happens in private rooms, in Thailand it’s common to practice in one large space, with therapists casually chatting with each other or with clients during the session.
